....all 4'10" and 100 lbs of him - - with such a smooth, technically sound swing - - and cranking drives 200 yards out, has really made me re-think the importance I need to put on the fundamentals of technique vs power.

Then I started comparing really good technique in other players. For example, a D-1 female golfer has an average drive of 235+ - - which is about the average drive of your adult male amatuer.

Has anyone else every had this wake up call in their game? Did it change how you practiced and scored?

My older daughter just turned 13 and she is longer and straighter… Charlie is a solid player but no where near the player Lil John Daly was at the same age - he is the real deal… Charlie is a good elite player… at this point…

He must have asked Phil for his calf workout routine.

meh...I'll cut him some slack. It's easy to become you kid's biggest fan when they do well. It's all part of being a parent. If she is performaing at that level, then she is putting in the work and he has her some good coaching. Kudos....but I would not wanna play her...just sayin'

Roy has posted about his kids a good bit on here. They are both deep in the junior golf scene. He seems to have a decent grasp of their skills and potential compared to other kids. I think one is going to the drive chip and putt at Augusta.

I'll take his thoughts on junior golf and Charlie's place in it

That shot JD2 hit out of the sand was stupid.

Think it was a 200+ 5/6 iron that he put within 8 feet or so.

Yea, see....that's kinda what I figured. God knows I was probabaly THAT parent when my son was playing HS Football. Now that he is playing college ball, I tend to sit back more and just enjoy. Maybe I am getting old, but I enjoy watching kids succeed now more than ever

I think Charlie played lights out today - as good as well as he can play - I think it’s unfair for the media to put this on him because there is no way he is going to live up to what is going to be asked of him. Playing in a scramble is no where near the same as playing in a tournament. Charlie is a good elite level player but it’s not like he is wrecking USKids which is basically the bar at his age.

Personally I wasn’t a Tiger fan but I am a fan of his Part II - he has issues and problems just like I do and we all do - but kudos to him as I’ve heard he has been quite involved in caddying in the local tour from friend I have thst play there. I feel as if he has matured quite a bit and that he is quite involved now with his kids is a dramatic improvement of what I heard was going on 7-10 years ago - Good for Tiger and his kids will be far better off this way…

My point was - you could grab the top 25 kids at the US kids World Championships both boys and girls and they would likely out perform him despite his huge advantage in resources and access.

Yes my older daughter is going to DCP at Augusta and we are very proud of her A the younger one was DC area player of the year in her age group in 2021 - the 5th time she has won….

Both of them have issues and problems on and off the course like all kids and they have their challenges - and we do our best to help them grow up… Charlie I’m sure has a boat load of challenges too and I hope he over comes them and becomes a happy well adjusted adult some day and gets what he wants out of golf and his relationship with his parents …

Probably should have wrote my post in a more thoughtful way - but just seemed like the media way over did it this weekend with Charlie - when that’s nowhere near the reality of how he performs competitively…

As I said - JD II is the real stud of the younger kids - and I’ve heard many stories from people who interact with him that he’s a grea great kid - almost painfully shy but just a nice kid and I have never heard one bad thing about his dad either - IMHO JohnDaly deserves so much credit for making sure his kids wouldn’t have the same struggles he had - JD really gets my props for being a pretty good dad given where he came from - again far from perfect but a lot to respect with his parenting…

I get what you’re trying to say and I’m sure you’re proud of your kids like every parent is. I don’t think anyone knows what Charlie is and nobody knows what any of these kids are at this age. From what i understand is Charlie is really just starting to love the game. And there is a massive difference from playing uskids etc and playing on national tv with hundreds of thousands if not millions watching and playing along side other top ranked professionals golfers ripping drives down the middle and knocking it stiff from all over the course. Scramble or not. Doing that with the audience he had watching is insane and comparing that to any type of preteen amateur events is ridiculous.

Also - early success at golf is such a meaningless thing - burn out is a real thing so is loss of interest and work ethic - as Bill Mahr said so well a month or so ago - kids are not just shorter adults … they are kids going through tons of development… we will see what happens with all of them - I always tell my girls - the real trophy is - who are you married to when you are 40? What is your relationship with your kids like? How strong are you in your faith? How satisfied and happy are you with your life… junior good can certainly test a parents priorities it’s a wild ride for sure

I'm a fan of his as well but cmon...he's a college golfer now. Charlie is 12. And he's performing like he is in spite of all the hype and expectations. At any rate, it's gonna be fun to watch both of them grow into their golf careers.

Good luck to your kids btw.

Charlie was putting lights out and he and tiger ham and egged it really well today. Just incredible to have the birdie run they had. It’s cool to see a legend of the sport play with his son.

John Daly and his son are awesome also. I do appreciate John dalys story.

Right back at you. People have been dickriding Tiger so long, they automatically assume his kid will be as great as his dad was. It’s not guaranteed.

You have a well thought out, reasonable opinion about Charlie based on the experience of the parent whose own child is an accomplished youth player. Why would you dismiss his assessment out of hand? If you can counter his assertions, do so. You can’t. Odds are you’re simply mad because he isn’t orgasming over Tigers son the way everyone else has all week. It’s actually kind of sickening all the fawning they’re doing over a young kid. Seems they’re putting immense pressure on him at such a young age and with so far to go.
