In the age of NIL, why would anybody do this? Unless Jimbo wrote out the check himself, that money came from boosters. Boosters who most likely own a business or run a business. It's so easy to say "Walter Nolan, here's 600k to advertise for insert name of local Ford dealer here". Any school that is still illegally paying players via the old bag man system is doing it wrong IMO
Because they (recruits) want money right now. Pay them to visit, pay them to sign, & just tell them whatever the hell they want to hear with NIL. That is what A&M is doing and it's pretty clear that cash is still king.
NIL just provided them with a cover to explain the unusual national interest by 5-stars. If you look beneath the surface, you will see it's all bullshite, their legitimate NIL infrastructure is severely lacking.

Correct. You can easily see the kid from TN and the kid they flipped from Georgia are making big hay. Completely outside of A&Ms usual area, and I'll even grant them the Florida recruits given Jimbo's history in that state.
You can't convince me that DL goes from TN to A&M without a bigger check than Bama and Georgia.
