I’m going with the wife next summer, she has a work conference and I thought I’d go(never been to Texas) anybody familiar with the area? If so what to do?

Dallas area. Tons to do. Should be able to do great lake activities on Lake Grapevine or Lake Lewisville

Sports:
Rangers game (two minor league teams as well)
Tour Cowboys Stadium or The Star in Frisco
Tons of great golfing

Shopping/Dining/Nightlife:
Downtown Grapevine is charming
Bishop Arts district
Lower Greenville
Deep Ellum
Legacy West
Downtown Ft Worth and Stockyards

Culture:
Perot Museum
Sixth Floor (JFK)
Kimball and Modern (Ft Worth)

Amusement:
Six Flags and Hurricane Harbor
Dallas World Aquarium
Dallas or Ft Worth Zoo
Dallas Arboretum and White Rock Lake
Klyde Warren Park

I’m sure some folks will be along to suggest more…

While all of your list is accurate, half of them on a weekday after work are an hour plus away with traffic. Grapevine is like 30 miles from Downtown Dallas.

Downtown Grapevine, have some wine at any number of tasting rooms, enjoy the Gaylord, Mi Dia is a great restaurant, venture out if you have time to anything on the other list, but you'd be fine in Grapevine too.

ETA: They have a train from GV to Ft Worth, so wouldnt have to worry abt traffic.

Grapevine is one is the coolest parts of the metroplex. Tons of good wineries/bars and restaurants downtown on Main Street.

Bobs steak and chophouse is a high end steakhouse if that’s what you’re looking for.

You can also board a train and head to downtown Fort Worth if that intrigues you.

Esparzas for Mexican food and margaritas. I saw Terry Bradshaw in there one night and he was bombed.

Cafe Italia for dinner. BYOB. Trust me.

We like to go to Main Street. Have a couple glasses of wine at Messina Hof (favorite wine spot in Grapevine) and take a bottle to go and head to Cafe Italia.

Bob’s steak house is good too and owned by the same guys that own Cafe Italia.

Hotel Vin is a new spot that’s pretty awesome. They have a big food court with a couple different rooms and bars. Had live music the couple times I went on the weekends.

ETA: I do like Esparzas margaritas, but haven’t had any food from there.

There’s not a ton to do in Grapevine during the day.

You can catch the DART Orange Line at D/FW or park at the Belt Line station in Las Colinas (10 min drive or Uber tops; your hotel should be able to shuttle you to a spot at the airport near the DART station). It’ll take you right to downtown Dallas in 30-45 mins. Trolleys will take you to Uptown and Bishop Arts.

…if you’d like things to do while your wife is in conference sessions all day.
