Not sure how I feel about this.
He's "player approved" but it seems like they went with the easiest decision.
I wish him the best, but I have a bad feeling that not opening a nationwide search is going to bite us in the arse.

We could do worse.
But we could have done better.
They're expecting him to keep up what Napier built, but he's not Napier. How long until the wheels fall off is probably the better question.

One thing that's hard to do in CFB is remain consistent for long periods of time. If you look at other G5 programs like Boise St. and App State that have maintained success over decades, they have promoted from within their winning culture.
Dirk Koetter -> Dan Hawkins -> Chris Petersen -> Bryan Harsin
Jerry Moore -> Scott Satterfield -> Eliah Drinkwitz -> Shawn Clark
Mike Dez isn't a splashy hire, but I don't think it's a lazy hire. It's an attempt to follow the rubric of other successful programs. Napier set the foundation of the program and what we want it to be. It might work or it might not work, but if Dez was glowingly endorsed by CBN and approved by Dr. Maggard, I'm all for it.
