LSU hired Kelly, Tech hired Cumbie.

Who are the candidates at ULL and Grambling?

No one knows. Names thrown out by fans are Pete Golding, Jay Johnson, Patrick Toney. Rumor on Cajun board that CBN personally endorsed Mike Des (co-OC and former QB for Cajuns), but he probably needs to get some chops elsewhere before an HC gig.

I don't think there's much discussion beyond that from our fanbase since Napier came out of left field last time around.

ESPNRittenberg: Hearing today Michael Desormeaux is a formidable candidate for #Louisiana's head-coaching vacancy. Ragin' Cajuns TE coach was a star QB for the team

For Grambling no one really knows. I’ve seen Mickey Joseph, Bruce Eugene, Marshall Faulk, Ed Reed, Ray Lewis and Marvin Lewis all be mentioned. I’ve even heard Brice Brown from Karr.

Mike's a great guy, hope he gets the gig.

I have a tough time believing Dez will be the guy unless

1- Maggard is 100% convinced that Dez will continue the structure and culture that Napier built better than anyone else;

AND

2- We don’t have the same donor funds to entice a new coach the way we got Napier.

Apparently Napier recommended Desormeaux. That's fine and all and you can take it under consideration for a continuity hire. But hes only ever been a coach at UL. 1 or 2 years under Hud and then through Napier's tenure. I value a coach that's got varied experience. Seen how different coaches run their programs at various programs.

Golding may be ready to get out of bama.

The last time we hired an assistant SEC coach who was about to be relieved of his duties, we won six games over the next three years and for sued by said coach.

Sports radio mentioned Rob Sale as a possible candidate for UL

I’d be ecstatic, but I don’t know if that’s a real possibility.

I’ve heard we apparently made an effort (though I’ve sure everyone involved knew it was futile) to bump Napier to $3 Million to stay. Maybe if we can get that sort of commitment to Sale, he MIGHT consider.

He’s a hell of a football coach. Seems like he would rather save lives of kids at Karr than go anywhere else but you never know.

Whomever we get needs to be able to develop a starting QB quickly, or hire someone who can.

I know there’s a contingent of Cajun fans who think Levi Lewis wasn’t a “real D1 QB” (the guy got 2nd team All-SBC this year, behind only the 2nd time conference player of the year) and that Chandler Fields was the best QB. However, if Fields really was the best on the roster, do we think Napier (who needed another 10 win season to get that SEC head coach gig) would have sacrificed a future huge pay day just to play Lewis?

We will need someone to come in who can get either Fields or another QB ready. Our OOC schedule next season is easier that this year’s. There’s a real chance to make another run, but we’ve gotta have a competent starting QB.

Chandler is going to have to beat out Lance LeGendre next year. I like Fields, but I don't see that happening.

Legendre is a great athlete playing QB. Fields is a great QB and good athlete. I’ll take the great QB.

Also if anyone thinks Levi Lewis was going to get benched by Napier they would be fools. We have two QBs who are much better passing QBs than Lewis, but you don’t pull a guy who is a proven winner like Lewis because he has limitations. Especially a QB that still wins games.

Ole Miss OC Jeff Lebby will interview by the end of the weekend.

NYG OL Coach Rob Sale declined to interview, but weighed in on candidates. Pushed Mike Desormeaux.

Bama DC Pete Golding is rumored, to be a candidate.

UGA DC Dan Lanning & Glen Schumann have been mentioned.

Mich St OC Jay Johnson has interviewed and wants the job. Was OC under Hudspeth, prior to infractions.

Mike Desormeaux Co-OC at UL knocked his interview out of the park and has recommendations from Napier and Rob Sale.

Baylor DC Ron Roberts has been mentioned, but I’ve been told he doesn’t like being a HC. It’s why he left SLU as the HC to be DC at UL.

That’s the only names I’ve been able find out about.
