Pels best lineups all have Trey in them…(almost)

In Pels 5 man lineups, with at least 30 mins played, Trey is in all but 2 of the top 10 scoring lineups, and one of those is our pre-season “healthy” starting lineup that has only been on the court in 10 games (the other is a 53min lineup of Graham, Naji, Jose, Zion, and Larry).
Makes sense for Willy to play him less and less as the Pels struggle to score, right?
We all know Willy has abandoned the PF position, unless his name is Zion, in favor of an extra wing this year, but abandoning our best shooter and “prototype 3&D” is baffling.** Is he trying to recreate the 90s era Pistons and just beat on people, if so, why abandon your size?
**and Kira is up to over 45% from 3pt and is now apparently nailed to the bench just racking up DNP-CDs one after the other
I 1000% put this latest slide on Willy. Going small without getting any shooting on the floor is insane. What basketball coach would ever think being the smaller, and less offensively skilled, team would be the way to win?
It’s completely on Griff and Langdon for not getting a decent stretch PF to backup Zion on the roster, so the Pels can balance the floor and maintain a defensive presence when Zion’s out, but even without that tool, Willy has consistently put the Pels in a position to be outmanned on both sides of the court and that’s unacceptable.
With an imperfect roster the coach may have to pick his poison and accept an area of weakness, but you simply can’t have a strategy that fails to create any areas of strength at all, and for certain you shouldn’t be rolling that same strategy out game after game when it is clearly not working.

Willie is doing what SVG did. Caring about the defense to the detriment of the offense, which in turn negatively impacts the defense. The worst part is this coaching staff already lived through this failed experiment once. They should be steering Willie in different directions. Hell, Willie brought in an analytics coach to point out things like you just did.

Either Willie is oblivious to this …which is highly unlikely or Trey has not responded to the challenge to defend and rebound at a higher level so Willie is unwilling to waver.
If Pels have a long term view maybe there is an understanding from the organization and they are willing to sacrifice some victories short term .
Not saying this is the case but just a different angle than the constant regurgitation of Willie is dumb and Trey needs to play more .
I posted early in the season that Trey had been disappointing bc he was a one trick pony. He’s certainly had moments of being very good but as a coach it would be tough to reward a guy that doesn’t do the little things . Unfortunately the one thing he does is desperately needed and perhaps the only guy on the roster that can be depended on to do it .

We can't win a championship without Zion. Zion must likely isn't going to play anymore. The tank is on.

I wouldn’t necessarily hate that strategy if Willy followed it through, but rolling out lineups with Herb/Naji/Trey/BI at the 4 and expecting them to hold up against bigger athletic guys like JJJ/Giannis/Aaron Gordon/Banchero/Randle/Mobley etc is just crazy.
Even for guys that are good individual defenders like Herb/Naji that is simply asking too much physically.
So what Willy ends up is the worst of both worlds, an opponent that is usually bigger and can pack the paint on D making BI/CJ/JV try to compete inside against a frontline that is waiting on them (shocker we end up with a bunch of contested jump shots), and a constant physical mismatch inside on the other end.
** For fun I looked and the lineups of JV, Jax/Larry, BI, Trey, and CJ has not played a single minute so far this season.
Also, not that he’s a world beater, but Trey’s D has stepped up significantly over last season. His advanced stats on D are all above average for the year so far.

Explain the Kira and Dyson daniels benching as well. Because I can't.
I feel like it's coming from above - play our new vet more to see if he's a fit for our system so we can see if it's worth keeping. You know the youth of Dyson and Kira will be around

You should. I'm not talking about a defense first mentality. I'm talking about defense at the expense of the offense, which leads to a higher frequency of live ball turnovers which leads to bad defense because it's hard to defend fast breaks created by live ball turnovers that were created because you skewed the personnel to defense so much that they can't score in the half court.
It's a problem, the very problem you point out in the OP by implying Trey should be getting more minutes.

I don't get why Willie feels like he has to start Richardson. It's not like we traded for some superstar, he was coming off the bench for SAS.
I think you're hurting Trey's confidence and even Naji's for that matter. I'm fine with JR getting minutes, he's obviously a quality player, but even if it's not Trey, I'd rather Naji be getting the start.

Starting Richardson is fine, but he should be starting for Herb, not Trey.

I haven’t viewed kira and Dyson as being benched . Dyson just missed a month and kira hasn’t ever really been in the rotation consistently . Maybe we just see it differently .
Kira has been an odd man out in a numbers game . Unless you are taking minutes from Jose or CJ it’s hard to find time for him .
Dyson’s time is coming . He had some time in the rotation surprisingly early bc of His Defense but offensively is still very raw .
