2023 Draft Prospect Watch Thread

As we all know Wembanyama is the consensus number one pick followed by Scoot at 2, but Brandon Miller from Alabama looks very good so far this year. Might be the #3 prospect as of now. 6’9 guard/wing that can do it all.
This is gonna be a very nice draft class especially if some of these freshman who haven’t played yet play how people expect them to play. (Whitmore, Smith)

Am I wrong for preferring Scoot over Vic for this team if we had the choice between the 2?

Anyone noticed that Brazile kid at Arky? He’s a freak and will have to shoot up draft boards as the season progresses.

Brazil’s looked like the perfect modern day big against LSU last year when he was at Mizzou. I was hoping LSU could get him in the portal but not sure if they had any chance. He’s got every skill you can ask for he’s just pretty raw. His best days are definitely ahead of him.

LSU doesn’t know yet how fricked they are in sec this year. Alabama & Ark have some different dudes

It’s the classic Morant/Zion question again.
A healthy Wemby that reaches his potential has best in the league/top 10 all time upside
A healthy Scoot that reaches his potential has top 20-10ish player in the league upside.
Historically though, the former archetype(+7’2” lanky big) has a much more difficult time staying healthy and having a career than the typical SG/PG archetype.
But if you are picking 1st overall, it’s hard to not go for the total upside package, especially when it fits a long term position of need that fits so well next to Zion and BI. I honestly don’t know how a team can ever defend a Wemby/Zion one-two punch?

is it still true that wemby plays only 1 game a week full court with a referee?
what happens if he plays 3 a week? they run out of ice bags?
unless he plays a lot more and right away I would trade down if I got the 1 overall.
get scoot or any other who shines the next few months.
give me my choice scoot or duke center and your #1 in 2025 for wemby.

He's basically the perfect center to play on this team. If he pans out and we have good health luck I think you're almost guaranteed a title. He fills the biggest hole in this team (stretch defensive 5) in the best package ever created. I think you have to take a shot on that.

That's what's scary, considering Gayle Benson's history of contracting apparent numbnuts to manage (aka prolong) the injuries for the Saints & Pels.
In the past year, Wemby has had an 8-week-sidelined fibula stress fracture, a right shoulder blade contusion and a psoas muscle injury in his back. He hasn't even had the seemingly inevitable ankle fx's or lisfranc foot injuries that the frames of the Chet Holmgren's & Bol Bol's attract.
The upside of a healthy Zion-Wemby is so unbelievably tempting, but centers just aren't built for contact anymore like Shaq, Ewing, Olajuwon, etc. I think it'd be safer to root for Scoot.

I also don’t want to be the bearer of likely bad news, but I do think we should focus a strong bit of attention on picks 4-9. Cause I think that is likely where the Lakers pick falls.
Which, isn’t the worst thing cause there are still a lot of interesting players like the emerging Brandon Miller, Cason Wallace, Lively.

See, this is my apprehension on taking Vic. Guys his size with his frame really don’t make it in the NBA, see the most recent Unicorn example in Porzingas who hasn’t reached his potential due to to health, and as LSU pointed out above he already is racking up an injury history while not really playing much.
My thought is, is it worth it to pick him if we have the chance, or trade #1 for #2 and 2-4 future 1sts and take Scoot who fits this version of the Pels PERFECTLY and gives an elite true point guard to pair with BI and Z for the next 10+ years.
It’s definitely a debate worth having imo.

And iirc, hasn't pre-lotto pick 7 (or 6 ???) been the spot that has jumped up into the top 4 for like the last 5 years running (or most of them)?
I could see the Lakers ending up 6th or 7th pre-lotto.

A healthy Zion is top 3 for me but the best player...It will depend if he can have a 8/20 defense at least

Since i take BPA all the time, you're wrong for me i guess.
Victor is the best scorer and blocker in Betclic Elite. He's top 2 rebounder and has the best +/- . Moreover currently his team is 1st.
If you want him to stay healthy...Load management and luck...

If you’re saying this about a prospect before he’s even drafted, then he’s not the consensus BPA no matter the talent level. You can have all the talent in the world, if you’re not on the floor it does no good (case in point Zion).
If I have 2 scouting reports on my desk that say
Player A: Once in a lifetime talent. Potential to be top 5 of all time, however comes with injury concerns. You will have to limit his workload, no more than 30 minutes a night and likely will not be able to play more than 60 games a season.
Player B: Superb talent. Has top 20 player in the league talent. Can play 35 minutes a night every night. Offers 90 of the talent level of player A. Ready made to win now in any situation.
For THIS team, I take player B and don’t look back. A team desperate for a star talent, which luckily is not us, yes they HAVE to take Vic and just hope and pray.

I get that the pelicans most needed position is a big who can protect the rim and is a PnR defender. But, there are a lot of guards/wings in this draft I would love on the team. Out of Cason Wallace, Brandon Miller, GG Jackson, and Dariq Whitehead you would think one of those guys should be available when we pick.
