Such things tend to happen when a state goes all-in for Dems for the first time in 40 years. First, they eliminate right to work laws and now this.

These people met in a basement and executed documents alleging that they were duly appointed electors under the laws of the State of Michigan, and sent those certifications to Congress.
The charges are political and stupid, but so was sending a certificate signed by fake electors to Congress without any authority to do so.

The "false electors scheme" is a scheme that was devised to have a slate of electors meet to "certify" an alternate slate of electors from several states in the 2020 election - Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Georgia, and Arizona - and have those "certifications" sent to Congress for consideration (in conjunction with the plan to have Mike Pence not certify the actual slate of electors from these states), assert that the electoral votes were disputed, and place those false electoral votes in place of the actual slate of electors.
Of course, it failed miserably, but there were underlying crimes that were committed in this scheme.
You'll probably see some indictments in Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Georgia, and Arizona before all of this is over.

Of course it failed, because like everything else done to contest the 2020 result, it was a half-baked scheme that was handled poorly by grifters and terrible lawyers.
They apparently missed the *minor* detail that in order for their plan to work, the "alternate" slates of electors would have had to actually be certified by the respective States, not just written down by some guys on a piece of paper titled "Certification".

Alito ordered Pennsylvania to separate ballots. When the results of courts were unknown alternate electors was the wise thing to do.

That, and the actual slate of electors certified by the respective states were connected directly to the results of the popular vote of the November 2020 election, and that Mike Pence would have had to 1) ignore the popular vote of the November 2020 election in these states, 2) decertify the will of the voters of these states confirmed through the actual slate of electors, and 3) ignore that the Constitution only provided Mike Pence (as President of the Senate) the authority to read into the record the list of electors certified by the several states.
No one has ever confused these people for thinking this harebrained arse scheme through, thoroughly.

Some states have alternate electors. Want to guess to situation of Michigan with this? It’s not what the AG pretends it is. Will not stand up in higher courts

I am not aware of any State that certified multiple slates of electors in 2020. That is the only way for there to be "alternate" electors.
