Beginner weight training

I have a running and cycling background, but unfortunately I can no longer do these things. I’ve been walking for exercise, but that is getting old very quick. I’d like to join a gym, but as far as weight training goes, I wouldn’t even know where to begin once I walked inside.
Does anyone have a beginner training regimen that they could pass to at least give me a starting point. Thanks for any advice, it’s appreciated!

are you comfortable using dumbbells and are you comfortable learning from youtube?
can you do pushups and pullups, can you do lunges and squats?
whats your age and height/weight
Have you ever been in a gym? do you even know what some exercises are?
kind of need those things to help.

ok,
i suggest you start here, could even do this with a couple dumbbells and a medicine ball.
PPSA Dumbbell Strength
I would repeat this 3 times at a minimum. it will be hard if you progress the weights. you will be sore. Honestly i would suggest running until the new year.
from there, i would get on the greyskull lp. there is a long thread on here that goes over it. i would suggest the aesthetics template. do that for 3 months.
then i suggest going to the ppsa grasshopper program. or you could skip the greyskull program and just get the grasshopper program and run it like 3 times before moving to other ppsa programs.

Definitely do a program. I used to just mess around thinking of different exercises to do and never loved going to the gym so it wouldn’t last. I’ve been doing programs for the last 2 years and don’t even want to think about skipping a day.

Start slow.
Don’t dive in head first or it won’t stick.
How many days a week do you want to work out and how long in each session?

I agree. Do lighter weights and work on your form. Once you have a foundation then you can ratchet it up as much as you want to.
There are tons of free lifting videos on YT so you can find some to get started with.

Video yourself doing the lifts with some really light weights and get some experienced feedback before you start lifting anything challenging.
I agree with starting a program. If you don’t have a lot of time to commit I think 5/3/1 is is a good and easy one, but it goes slow. IMO if you haven’t lifted in a long time it’s a good place to start though.
