Looking to get out of Car Sales, any advice?

Been in the business for 4 years now. Lots of ups and downs from Covid and the surplus of big time commission, but now that well has all dried up with the economy/inflation and it’s hard to have consistent pay. Obviously that is the nature of the beast when it comes to sales, but with car sales it is a commitment of basically living at the dealership for hours on end. As a single guy that was never even an issue. But with money slowing down and being in a relationship and looking to start a family down the line, I can’t justify the hours versus pay, nor do I see it as sustainable.
Any advice on what career path to move forward with after escaping the clutches of the car business?
PS: Yeah I know, car salesman. I’m a scumbag I get it. Go ahead take your shots, nothing personal lol.

Take that skill set and move it onto your next sales job.

Meh. There’s a line between selling and taking advantage of people. Decent humans who happen to be sales people won’t cross it.
Do you want to stay in sales in a different capacity?

The good news is if you can work for a car dealership you already have moral flexibility so you have some additional job options most people wouldn’t consider

If you are a good communicator, presenter, and able to provide analytical insights, there are automotive tech companies who pay well for guys with dealership experience.

Honestly we got extremely spoiled during covid 2020/2021/2022. Car shortage, full sticker prices, making at least $1,000 on a new car for a solid year. With that being said inflation hit us last, and now we are having to fight for crumbs.

But first, can you get the OT an employee discount?

Depends on what you sell. I have a friend who works for an exotic dealer in NOVA and makes $200k+ no matter what the economy is doing.

I was waiting on someone to post something like this. And I agree.
However, the OP isn’t selling exotic luxury cars

Toyota's don't have any mark up. So when they would sell at full sticker (with a $5,000 non negotiable fee on top) you could make anywhere from $800 to $2,000 (obviously depending on the vehicle and the back end). Remember, Tundra's were selling between $50-$90K like a year ago. But like I said it's not a brag because that was lightning in a bottle and we are not getting anywhere close to that anymore..
