Do people still send unsolicited resumes to companies that don’t have any jobs posted?

I am trying to break into a pretty niche career without any experience. I am thinking about saving like $5k and firing off a bunch of resumes to the respective company in each town to see if I can get any offers. Just let them know I am interested in an entry level position if any become available. I am fine with living somewhere crappy for a few years and then after I get experience make my way back to where I really wanna be, which is probably back near home. Is this still a thing people do or is this super old man of me?

If its a Louisiana job then good luck you'll need a brother in-law for that.

That mini wall of text isn't a good sign of future success.

Stick with McDonald's.

I don't understand the $5k part of your plan.

I live in Texas so my plan would be to try a bunch of Texas companies first, but I’m not opposed to working in another state tbh

I’m mid 20s I live with roommates so I pretty much spend all my money on the weekends and my girlfriend. I would be living somewhere new without anybody I know so I would need a safety net.

Maybe you should stick with McDonald’s if that’s too much for you lol

Currently I working in accounting but I want to be a title abstractor or right of way agent. I hate accounting with a passion. I know I will make less money and I really don’t care lol

I can’t even get an automated response (rejected or otherwise) from a company right now.
Sending off resumes blind is worth a shot at this point.

Now is the time when you are young without wife & kids. If you can get into a career that you enjoy doing and support your future family, go for it. Best of luck.

I am actually looking into a couple of careers as I’m doing whatever I can to escape my current situation. I have been getting a few responses (like 1/10) but they are all the lowest paying jobs. I think things are getting bad and only gonna get worse, but I hope I’m wrong

Yes people still send them.

Can’t speak for other companies, but we rarely actually look at unsolicited resumes. And when we are looking for employees, we typically get so over inundated w resumes we don’t think to look at the file of resumes we’ve been sitting on for weeks/months

I feel like 3rd party recruiters are almost gatekeepers to most jobs at this point.

You say this in the OP
quote:

Just let them know I am interested in an entry level position if any become available

Then complain about this
quote:

have been getting a few responses (like 1/10) but they are all the lowest paying jobs.

So which is it, want to just get your foot in the door, or not willing to take that entry level position?

It’s not the main career I’m interested in either

We get resumes now and then from people with no relevant education or experience. I figure it has something to do with staying eligible for unemployment.
