Oct. 26 Update: Darrell Brooks convicted on all 76 charges against him with all enhancers.
He will be sentenced to 6 life sentences without the possibility of parole with the possibility of up to just more than 850 years on top of that.
Sentencing will happen at a later date.
Oct. 4 Update: Jury (12 jurors & 4 alternates) selected. Testimony starts Thurs., Oct. 6
The jury reportedly consists of 10 men & 6 women
ALL white
Original Post (Oct. 3) - Jury selection started today in the trial of Darrell Brooks... the man accused of killing 6 people & injuring scores others at a Christmas parade in Waukesha, Wis. on Nov. 21, 2021
And it appears to have gone as expected... with Brooks causing numerous disruptions and getting kicked out of the courtroom several times due to said disruptions
At 1 point... he even said he didn't recognize his own name on a piece of paperwork he was provided by the court
Brooks is representing himself... so this should end up being an easy W for prosecutors just on that fact alone (a man who represents himself in court represents a fool)... but he is also trying out the "sovereign citizen" tactics... which always goes over well
Voir dire of potential jurors was supposed to start at 8:30 AM... but due to Brooks' antics... didn't start in earnest until about 2:30 PM
it was originally expected to take 3-4 days to pick a jury of 16... 12 jurors & 4 alternates... but who knows how long it's actually going to take if Brooks keeps up with these antics (and doesn't decide to get actual lawyers to do his defense for him)
Brooks faces 76 total charges in relation to the attack... including 6 counts of first degree intentional homicide
if convicted on even 1 of the homicide counts... he faces a mandatory sentence of life without parole
WITI Milwaukee
As a side note... the judge did not allow any streaming or live coverage from the courtroom and severely restricted what news cameras can use from the courthouse
ETA: I may have misunderstand the explanation of the judge's ruling... just jury selection isn't being live streamed... but the trial itself will be

This judge sucks.
Edit: Other posters have said that the trial will be live-streamed. The no live stream decision was just for jury selection. This judge may or may not suck.

LawTube (ie Rekieta Law) would've had a field day with this case

I've never seen a crime story get swept under the rug by the media faster than this one

You’d think a story like this would garner huge attention from the national media. Odd that it doesn’t. It’s almost as though the media has a political narrative to promote so they’re only interested in stories that line up with that narrative. But that’s crazy. If that were true it would mean virtually all national media wasn’t actually journalists but instead part of the propaganda wing of a political party.
But that’s crazy, right?

Would not be surprised this case gets thrown out on some ridiculous technicality.

He’s actually planning on live-streaming it. The judge only chose to not allow cameras for jury selection. The actual trial will be broadcast.

Is Rekieta covering the trial?
since there's no live stream... there's nothing for him to cover
he might talk about it on his night stream though

the fact that Brooks is representing himself while causing all the disruptions and getting himself kicked out of court could cause appealable issues

ah ok... I must've misread it... hopefully they do b/c if Brooks keeps acting like he did today... it's going to be amazing TV

The actual trial will have video and Rekieta is going to cover it daily for as long as it’s entertaining.
