The wife and I are going up the second week in April. Flying in to Boston on a Friday morning and staying 8 days. Plan to drive up to Bar Harbor then come back to spend a few days in Boston. Would love any suggestions on towns I need to stay in, restaurants, activities etc. Boston is my favorite city, so I want to spend atleast 3 days there. I know Abita has a great thread on it. Any input is welcome! TIA

Made a similar trip back in June. We really liked bar harbor. Camden is one of the most beautiful towns I’ve ever seen as well as booth bay harbor. Coastal Maine is great. !

Booth Bay Harbor is a fun little town. And since youre in Bar Harbor definitely take a drive up Cadillac Mountain.

quote:Only been to Maine once and it was August. It might be a little cool in April. We were told by a worker at a restaurant that a lot of the places are only open 6 months of the year. You may find that some restaurants or lobster pounds are closed in early April.

We stayed 4 nights in Bar Harbor and three would have been enough unless you want to hike a lot of trails.
Maine TB trip report
This is my travel board trip report.
We also stayed in Portland and Camden one night each.
If we ever go back places I would like to see/do, mostly based on comments from this board, are:
Boothbay
Inn by the Sea which is south of Portland
Wiscasset to get a lobster roll at Red's Eats - supposed to be the best.
Stonington - a couple we met while waiting for sunrise on Cadillac Mountain recommended this place.
While at Bar Harbor I recommend driving over to Schoodic Point. It's about an hour drive east of BH. If you drive up Hwy 1 stop at the Penobscot Narrows Bridge & Observatory and go up to the observation deck for a high level view of the area.
As Boston is your favorite city you obviously have been. We were there this past summer and loved it. You probably don't need recommendations for that but mine would be to eat in the North End and get a piece of Boston Creame Pie from one of the bakeries.

I've spent some time in the Ogunquit, Wells, Kennebunkport area so figure that's worth a stop on the way up.

A lot of the summer places to stay at usually don't open until May but still a lot of things to see and do
Some of the restaurants are seasonal as well

We love Boston too. Our coastal Maine trip actually ended with a few days in cape cod . If you haven’t been and have the time and are up for it you should def check it out.

Cape Cod and Newport Rhode Island are really nice trips and not a bad drive from Boston to either
Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park are awesome but keep in mind it's about 3/4 hours from Boston or southern part of Maine
You can see a lot of coastal Maine without going all the way to Bar Harbor if you want to save time

Love coastal Maine. But be aware that Bar Harbor is a long haul up. To meaningfully do Acadia you need to stay somewhere close.

Do yourself a favor and do a drive by Ocean Drive in Kennebunkport. Jaw dropping scenery
