Why are Italy and Great Britain in the WBC

Both teams rosters are 90% American born players. I do not understand this.

WCA, cover your eyes for a second.
Look at USA soccer, when it started it was made up mostly of British ex-pats that were working blue collar jobs. Now, the US is considered a top 16 team in the world in soccer. It started because of those British ex-pats.

Doesn't apply here. These Aren't American ex-pats. They're just Americans wearing another country's jersey. It's just not authentic.

Likely eligible for one, even if they haven't had one made or requested it, based on those countries' respective citizenship rules. Folks may not realize that most countries grant citizenship based on the parents' birthplace.
