Dare Rosenthal graded out highest among all OLinemen

Rosenthal was 72.8
Deculus was the lowest of the starters at 64.3
It should be strongly considered for Rosenthal to replace Deculus permanently when Charles is not suspended — whether that’s at LT or RT and have Charles at the other spot

I have always felt like Deculus would be a solid guard. He wouldn't have to be as athletic or quick (his weakness) and he could rely on his great strength more.
But he's been much improved at RT this season IMO. I think we stay with him there until we think he can't handle it.

People put way too much stock in PFF.

Also, is this the whole season graded out so far or one game?
I'd love to see comparison of the whole season v. just the Texas game.

Regardless of the grade, I think Deculus has done a formidable job. MUCH better than last year.
I don’t think it’s smart to move Rosenthal and replace anyone based off PFF and Northwestern St. pump your brakes.

Very true. It is a number based off subjective scores and people treat it like football WAR or PER.

I’ve actually been pleasantly surprised by our OL thus far. It was our biggest area of concern coming in. They’ve definitely improved since last year. Obviously they still have areas to improve on. But they’re trending upward.

That's true, it's subjective, but it's a better guess than half of the rant drunkenly saying "hey that guy came around Deculus, he must suck"
They take a lot of things into account, and generally the people we consider to be our better players score highly. So it has at least some merit.

Rosenthal started vs NSU. Was replaced by second series with Traore. Never heard any commentary on why in post game

It's amazing what a dynamic passing game that gets the ball out quick does for the offensive line.
We've been screaming this for years. I feel like I'm in the twilight zone now that it's actually happening

They were just in rotation — did it most of the game.

My only question is how many employees do they have that they can break down all 11 players on both sides of the ball o fr every play for every game.
Who does this for them?
Who does this for them?

quote:For the most part I like their method for OL and DL, not so much other positions. In fact, I like their method much more than some NFL teams method. Some NFL teams are almost binary; example: did OLman push defender out of hole? If yes, 5 out of 5; if no, 1 out of 5 (get one point for no penalty). PFF will often deduct points because even though they were pushed out of hole, in this example, the leverage was wrong and it caused the RB to adjust his cut into the arms of a LB or give them a 2 because even though they didn't get push, the block was a complete seal.
People put way too much stock in PFF.
But, like any grading of any lineman, there's a lot of subjectivity from the eye of the beholder (the grader).
quote:Worth noting that Football Outsiders has us at an overall sack rate of 5.4% (still too high) so far this year; we were at 8.0% last year (waaaay too high).
