Eric Andolsek was born on this day in 1966. Andolsek would be a 2x All-SEC OL in 1886-1987 & be drafted by Detroit Lions in the 5rd of the 1988 Draft. He was struck by a semi truck while working in his yard in 1992 that killed him at age of 25.
RIP Eric

I was up in Dallas, years back, met up with a number of coaches, in the group was Bert Hill. He was on the staff of the Lions during the time Eric was there. Bert had a number of stories on Andolsek.

Eric was the energy of that OL. I can still see him waving to the crowd to get the volume up. Tough tough Tiger. RIP.

I went to football camp at USL back in the day and Andolsek attended that year also. He was a good 6'5 and 270 lbs. I was a freshman QB and CB for my not very good high school football team. Andolsek had a good 7 inches and 120 lbs on me and easily outran me in some of the drills. It was then that I knew my future career lay outside professional football.

I'll always see the Notre Dame game, when Erik's name is mentioned. An LSU back fumbled, and a Notre Dame player fell on the ball. The TV Announcers proclaimed "Notre Dame's Ball". Notre Dame was the darling of all the sports media in those days. Instantly, Andelsek rushed up and drove his shoulder into the Notre Dame players back. The ball squirted out and LSU recovered.
He seemed to approach every play the same. The play isn't over until the whistle blows and the official was too slow.

Never forget him and Chris Spielman almost coming to blows during the coin toss of LSU-Ohio State game in Baton Rouge. Ironically, later became Lion teammates and close personal friends.

Was the truck driver charged with anything? Or just an accident?

Who the Hell downvotes this!!! Eric was one of the nicest people off the field and one of the strongest, MEANEST S.O.B.s on the field.

Spielman was a damn good LB, but he would’ve never have lasted in a fight against Big E

Just left his dads house! Big Lou still going strong! Happy Heavenly Birthday Big E!
