they do when they screwed their draft stock so badly they wont go higher then a 4th round pick
in boutte's case he would have been a 1st round pick, now he "might" be a 3rd rounder at best. THATS the only reason he is coming back, so he can have a season to rack up great stats and get back to being a 1st rounder again

And let’s not be naive. He’s coming back to elevate his draft stock to make more money. His stock took a hit this year. Now sure, some of that was due to JD not throwing downfield, but Boutte started off bad with two dropped TDs against FSU and didn’t get better much of the season.
Am i glad he’s coming back? Sure, assuming we get 100% effort from him.
But it’s not for love of LSU.
