If an SEC championship win balances the FSU loss, then LSU and UGA have the best resumes.

An argument that I'm not hearing explicitly stated but needs to be hammered is that winning the SEC championship should balance the 1-pt FSU loss.

If LSU beats UGA in the SEC championship and you follow the axiom that it cancels the FSU loss.

Then you would have 3 "1 loss" teams that beat each other. Allowing you to examine them on equal footing...

UGA 12-1
TENN 11 - 1
LSU 11 - 1* (cancelling the FSU loss)

using current rankings and removing conf champ label:

UGA Wins over #12 team and #5 team; SEC east champ
Tenn Win over #6 team and #8 team
LSU win over #1 team #8 team and #14 team; SEC west champ

Other take-aways being:

1) The ole miss win is huge for us. We will need them to win out.

2) What Rece Davis is insinuating is that if LSU beats UGA then we will not move from our #6 spot.
In his scenario, if LSU beats #1 UGA then the poll will look something like this. (assuming UGA is in no matter what)

#1 OSU/UM
#2 TCU
#3 UGA
#4 OSU/UM

#5 Tenn
#6 LSU

This would be the 1st time in my life that a team does not move up in the polls after beating the #1 team in the country. Unpossible.

Tennessee went to OT against Pitt, not like they dominated OOC

Pitt is no longer in the CFP top 25. That win is meaningless for Tenn.

Ole Miss is helping us tremendously.

Personally I thought it would be better for LSU if OM beat Alabama, because it would have diminished Tenn's best win and would have enhanced our resume.

being a conference champion and how you finish matters. UGA shouldn’t be guaranteed anything if they lose. would need multiple 2 loss champions

I tried to argue that with some, but they wouldn't listen. I guess locking up the West title early was more important...

No losses get “cancelled.” That’s absurd. They all count. As do all wins. It’s up to the committee to determine how much they value each data point. But the FSU wasn’t an exhibition game—they kept score and the outcome counted towards both teams’ records. It may not keep us out if we beat Georgia, but to pretend like it never happened is fricking retarded.

Semantics. Being the SEC champion should more than make up for the 1pt loss to FSU in the eyes of the committee. Not absurd.

In fact, driving that narrative is probably LSU's best chance with the committee.

Not when we got our arse handed to us at home by another team in the mix with 1 less loss. Like I said, it may not count enough to keep us out. But it absolutely counts and will 100% be a big part of the conversation if it comes down to us and Tennessee for that final spot.

That's the circular loop that needs to be broken.

"Well LSU lost to Tenn, but then they lost to UGA, but wait LSU beat UGA, who beat Tenn, who beat LSU, who beat UGA..."

You need to assign quantifiable values to each line item on the resume.

LSU will have the best item: SEC Champ
LSU will also have the worst item: 2 losses.

If you assign equal weight to those, then LSU and UGA have the best wins. This is LSU's best hope.

I'm happy that a lot of people on this site are able to daydream about LSU earning one of the 4 spots in the playoffs, but I also think there's a solid chance that we wind up 9-5, with losses to A&M, Georgia, and a bowl opponent. And, while that would horrify most of the people who post, here, I would nonetheless be extremely proud of what this team and this coaching staff has accomplished this year.

I’m tired of media saying we got blown out by Tennessee. We did and that same team would have gotten blown out by Bama too. But guess what? We have improved tremendously since then.

In a rematch, we beat Tennessee. That should be the narrative , not that we lost by a lot against them in October at 11 am start

Simply put , if this team can beat Georgia in the Sec championship game in Atlanta, the voters can’t say LSU can’t beat Tennessee in a rematch. Tennessee is weak and we all know it

I agree with other posters, there is no cancelling out losses. We have 2, Tennessee has one, and if we were to beat Georgia, they would likely have one as well. zero members on the committee feel that a win cancels a loss.

If we get in, it is because the committee will feel we pass the “eye test”, which is not tangible and kind of sucks for the other schools like Tennessee or the ohio st. vs michigan loser, or one loss usc.

If the SEC championship doesn’t make up for our 2nd loss then LSU will be sitting at home for the CFP.

I think it becomes a simple question for the committee. Are we going to put 2 SEC teams in the playoff with neither being the champion. I just don't see that happening. So you're gonna put 2 teams from the same conference in the CFP but not the team that won said conference? Nah.

We need to beat Georgia first. According to them, it’s impossible.

The same people gathering to rank these teams are the same people at ESPN the day after the LSU National Championship that put Ohio St as their best team for the 2019 season. They're idiots and know no more than we do tbh

LSU being left out of the CFP is very possible, even if they beat Ga.
