Polian will earn an average of $675,000 per year. His salary starts at $625,000 before increasing by $50,000 increments the next two years.
As part of their deals, Polian and Flint will both receive courtesy vehicles or $800 per month to make car payments.
If LSU fires Polian without cause, it will owe him 90% of his remaining base salary and supplemental compensation.

I've been told here that's it clearly just a talent problem. We have better talent and Polian is a special teams God I hear.

Two Wins per year for LSU for 2 years is worth his salary.

Polian is a curious case for me. No question his units have been awful this season but he supposedly had some solid special teams in his previous stops. I don't get it.

In his time coordinating special teams, the Irish units have been some of the best in the country. Punt coverage and kick-off coverage were both ranked in the top-20 nationally in 2019 and 2020. In 2019 and 2020, the Irish blocked four punts and returned two of them for touchdowns. Following the 2019 season, Pro Football Focus ranked the Notre Dame special teams as the No. 3 unit in the country.

That is unreal and he isn't remotely deserving of that salary with on field performance to date.

I posted this in another thread, but it applies here too. A reasonable reason for the struggles:
quote:
I heard him on an interview the other night talking about how thin the whole roster is in general and the fact that they can't play certain people on special teams because they are too valuable to risk losing due to depth issues. He mentioned Major Burns as one who he would love to have on special teams when he gets healthy, but they can't risk it.
LSU isn't playing with a full roster and it's a hodgepodge. And this hasn't changed in the last month--it's only gotten worse due to injury.
This year is about laying a foundation for new recruits to want to come to, not winning 10 games.
And Polian says that they can sell the opportunity of playing right away to recruits. There will be plenty of spots available.

It's certainly possible. It's just so strange, I doubt he just forgot how to coach special teams so it has to be something weird going on.

You think the coach fields punts and kicks?
Does he snap? Hold? Block? Kick?
I mean....we are bad because the players aren't getting the job done in live action

I like Polian the recruiter and personnel guy. As the special teams coach, he’s been the worst to ever do it here

By this rational, coaches would never lose their jobs.
It’s his job to scheme it properly, get players to execute it properly, and train them to improve their skill and not commit penalty after penalty. That’s literally the definition of his job.

Yeah something isn't adding up. Way too many issues on the field with this unit but like you showed he has had success other places.

Link to anyone at any point suggesting Polian is a god as a special teams coach?

How can I make this much money and be so bad at my job?

Players didn't execute. Possible but don't we hear this usually from coaches failing at their jobs?
Jimbo has said it recently with his offense.
Miles too on his offense.

I'll do it for $60k and parking pass...results won't be worse, I promise!

I know multiple Irish fans on Reddit said they had a lot of special teams gaffs when he was there.

I'm convinced this board is bipolar.
So it's ok to dump on Polian for sucking at his job and grifting the university for 650K/yr
yet miraculously, CBK is off limits
