In 2021, Daniels completion percentage was 65.4%

In the last 30 years at LSU, this would have been the 3rd highest of any quarterback in a single season. Only behind Joe Burrow and Jamarcus Russell (two first overall picks).

Sure, his interception total was high (10). 2 more than Mett threw in 2013.

Daniels' accuracy is what sets him apart in this QB room.
Couple that with above average speed for a QB and significant D1 experience, and he will give bring a dynamic to this offense that should give you confidence as a fan.

I'm all the way in for the kid. It's my belief that it's his job to lose.

I have recently watched a ton of film on Jayden, the good/bad/ugly and he's got a nice arm! I'm excited to see how much he has progressed since last year - let's hope our OL can keep him protected so he can make clean throws. If they do, we can win many games

I think it's more about decision making that leads to that completion % than accuracy. Not saying he's inaccurate, but if you watch his games it looks like several screens, slants, etc. He does a great job hitting checkdowns and running for 2-4 yards instead of throwing it away.

The kid still had 300 attempts. Idc what kind of passes they are. Still impressive.

I believe in our coaching staff (Kelly, Sloan, and Denbrock) to improve the weaknesses of all of our QBs and I trust they will make the right decision. Any QB would be successful

great number. even 60% is acceptable. hell in old days as long as you had over 50 that was good. we cannot expect brees or burrow 70% plus. that is just nuts.

however, i am curious.break down where those throws went to. short, intermediate or long

canada gave etling lots of short stuff to jack up his numbers also. because he knew what etling could and could not do well.

I don't expect him to be overly accurate.

I hope he'll be a playmaker though.

Remember, we have gamebreakers at WR. Our best path to success is to ride those guys. We probably don't need to start a guy who plays too conservatively.

And just for reference. Etling was 60% complete with 60 less pass attempts.

that is fine. we need those. but he has to be efficient hitting intermediate.

which is why i want breakdowns.

LSU.Gold shows in depth practice videos. He seems to be pretty on the money in most clips. Even though I doubt they would show the shittey throws

something will give. great number 65% completion rate. lots of attempts? ok.......

then we hear he was inaccurate in camp, bad footwork, and MAYBE has issues with reads?

shits not adding up. let's just hope he gets it done in games or else he will be benched and nuss will play.

We can win with anything over 60% because of our D

as i said above that number is acceptable...however maybe in hindsight only acceptable if we have enough quality intermediate throws. did etling have enough? maybe not now looking back. most guys can hit 60% with majority being short throws. or so you would think.

...expect a lot of broken / extended plays. Hope that he can make plays down field when that happens.

Big picture, you can hope that the rest of the game and knowledge of the offense comes to him over time as he gets games in this offense under his belt.

Think of the KC offense. Half of their plays are Mahomes just extending and using that arm talent.

Daniels isn't Mahomes. But, he can extend plays, and we have WRs that really can't be covered for extended period of times.

I'll just leave this here, PFF grades for Daniels at ASU:

2019: 66.7
2020: 73.3
2021: 83.2

In their eyes, he got better each year there. Statistically his best season was that first year, but when looking at every snap, they believe he played far better last season than his freshman year. They said he had 9 turnover worthy plays last season, this means they believe his direct play should have resulted in a turnover on 9 plays that season. For comparison Max Johnson here last year had 19 turnover worthy plays, meaning Max was WAY more turnover prone than Jayden was....Max just had an extreme amount of luck by comparison.

In 2018 Burrow's competition % was 58%. The next year that number explodes much higher...with virtually the same WR corps as 2018 (albeit a year older). Why, because he was operating in a MUCH better offensive approach than the one that had going 8 quarters (2016 and 2018) against Alabama without scoring a single point.

The point is that we don't know what Daniels will look like in THIS offense. In 2019 he played under one OC at ASU. In 2020 and 2021 he played for a different OC. Denbrock had a guy will a similar skillset at Cincinnati last season who had great success. Hopefully that will be the case here

etling couldn’t throw a deep ball to save his life.

JD has a beautiful deep ball
