West Virginia is tucked between a lot of states. They'd bring the Pittsburgh market, like you said.

They would garner more attention than people think from the Midwest.

I don't understand how WVU could be part of the SEC anyway....it does stand for South Eastern Conference. And they definitely aren't in the Southeast! Talk about travel for games!

they have above average academics, would be middle of the road in the SEC

they bring the Pittsburgh market

they have won more BCS games than half of the SEC, and their basketball team would be top 3 from the get go.

but you were almost on with your response

so everyone in Pitt is a WVU fan and not Pitt or Penn St?

i know they can sort of claim it in the same way that the saints can claim shreveport but i dunno.

it's easy to get into BCS games when you get an invite for winning a crappy league. south carolina, arkansas, and ole miss would've made noise in the big east.

their bball team is legit.

and when i said academics i meant more or less that they can't use it in the same way that vandy can use it to back their argument.

Texas and Oklahoma aren't on the Pacific Coast either

Pittsburgh and Syracuse aren't on the Atlantic Coast

Penn State doesn't fit in the Big 10

Louisiana Tech is in the WAC or God's sake

It's pretty far north, but if you look on a map, you can play a trick on your mind and make yourself think they are in the southeast.

And they do border Kentucky.

all that matters is Pittsburgh carries their games.

if you want to say that they bring no new markets, their sports teams suck, and have shitty academics, then please explain why we let Arkansas in?

as conference expansion moves forward, WVU is certainly a realistic possibility for the 15 and 16th spots of the eventual SEC super conference. They may not be the ideal school for spot 14, but they are certainly on the short list moving past that.

Wrong. WVU is ranked #164 in national university rankings. Ahead of such academic behemoths as Azusa Pacific U, Biola U, and Edgewood College. This is not exactly the kind of statement the SEC would want to make. Not to mention Mizzou is an AAU school (look it up to see what it means). Only 2 AAU schools currently in the SEC.

I keep hearing this over and over. They do NOT. SEC would expand its profile in the mountaineer state ONLY. Kansas City and Missouri are much bigger and more attractive.

1. Fan Base - Not much to be said here. One of the best fan bases in the country and one that travels EXTREMELY well.

2. Academics - Not the greatest. It is part of WVU's 2020 strategic plan to increase it's academic standing and so far is already working. There was a press release yesterday that we jumped 9 spots in the rankings from last year to this year.

3. TV Markets - We do not bring much of a television market, but it has been proven that we can bring viewers. WVU has the highest rated game EVER on ESPN Thursday Primetime and also has 2 other games in the network's top 10 viewed games of all time.

The SEC has not said no yet. They are waiting for Texas A&M and will move on from there.

i agree with this statement. i'm not anti WVU or anything, i just don't think what drives expansion now is what drove it in 92.

i think if we go to 16 they'll be in the mix.

I don't see why you are making it a Mizzou vs WVU thread, because no one has stated that WVU should get an invite ahead of Mizzou, as a matter of fact, I clearly stated that WVU may not be the ideal fit for the 14th spot (like a Mizzou would), but moreso for the 15 or 16th spot.

People under rate the academics at WVU but they have a fine taxidermy department there. One of the very best.

I don't know why people want to bring academics into the discussion in the first place. this isn't the B1G 11, we don't care about trivial shite such as graduation rates. Its all about the football and the money

yeah middle of the road is not accurate. according to this link they'd be last in the SEC.

for now, they will pass Mississippi State soon, anyways, I don't think they are too worried about the academics aspect of it
