Yea, the LHN is starting to wear an unpopular collar of negativity nationally as a conference buster.

I think UT overplayed its hand in a huge way this time around.

The network offers an obvious monetary perk, but only eight percent of that goes towards academia. Sounds almost like a sales tax. So, if the Longhorn Network is merely pumping money back into a football program that doesn’t really need any more of it, and if it’s monopolized (and hiding) all the information regarding the team, and if it’s tiring the coaching staff and alienating the fan base, then we have to ask ourselves the $300 million question: What, exactly, is its benefit?

Only t-shirt Texas fans, SOME Texas alums, and Aggie hating Baylor fans are pro-UT throughtout this mess.

As an Aggie I've bashed A&M plenty of times for its actions, and the level headed UT students/alums have got to feel the same way about their own school right now.

Wonder if they still get 300MM if no cable outlet picks it up?

But, as has been mentioned in several threads, it's ESPN's MO to bundle the stations at renewal time and hold their feet to the fire.

I wouldn't watch any network that focused only on one school. Can you say boring?

ESPN has performance based termination clauses in the contract.

I doubt this station lasts much longer than ESPN Mobile at this going rate

I'm tired of the LHN commercials. Anyone know the email to contact ATT U-verse to let them know they better not add this service? TIA.

Unfortunately, any e-mails you send regarding the 5-7(C) network are construed as requests for it.

ESPN will honor the LHN contract as long as needed to keep UT, OU, OSU, TT from jumping into the Fox Sports dominated PAC 12.

I spent the weekend in Austin with some t.u. students and alums.

All they do is make fun of it.

Especially this gem:

there is no doubt that adding the LHN has turned out to be a public relations nightmare to tejas. doubt many of them care though. it only adds to the extremely negative perspective around the nation the way they "handled" the nebraska, colorado, a&m and soon to be mizzou exits.

however, it's ESPN's money and they will have to pony up $300 mil. no doubt that ESPN will require cable operators to offer the LHN at contract renewal time and a few years down the road it will be standard fare on the tube. the problem ESPN has now is the ole' corporate one of not admitting to a mistake. that causes people to get fired so they will justify it and eat the loss and move on. the cable subscribers will be the ones paying, like it or not.

I agree in part, but 300 million is a big mistake for them to just let go. I'm pretty sure there is no clause about Texas not getting paid if cable providers don't pick up the channel. ESPN is invested, and will do what it has to do to at least make that money back.

Yes, 300M is the minimun guaranteed payout for Texas and it is waaay too early in the game for ESPN to throw in the towel or call this a failed endeavor.

Not if too large a loss is looming.

A 300 million loss without decent advertising dollars. . .that sounds like a pretty huge loss.

You know this how? Did you see the contract? Or are you just listening to the voices in your head? Since there's so many of them, how do you distinguish one from the other?

No way there's not an "out" clause. No way. I say this because one has to assume the ESPN negotiator is not a complete and total moron.

Why in the hell would anyone outside of a diehard UT fan want the LHN?
