What if its a race between Va Tech, Miami and FSU to be the 14th team?

Thinking about it some more...in terms of potential teams to add, there are just a few teams in the geographic footprint of the SEC that get people excited.
Ask yourself, which team would you want to see on your team's schedule? Which team, if on your home schedule, will sell tickets and possible get televised nationally?
Texas A&M was one of them. OU and Texas were two more, but they aren't an option.
Looking east, I can only think of a handful of teams: Va Tech, Florida State and Miami...none of them were part of the original ACC.
If you had to pick one of those three to become the 14th team, who would you pick?

Chicken, with all due respect, it ain't gonna happen. Carry on with the speculation though.

I still think it's West Virginia.

With all the shite Miami is in right now, I don't think they are even being considered.
I personally would want Va. Tech.

I mentioned Clemson. The big negative is a lack of TV/regional expansion (assuming that's a goal). The ACC just made it clear that there are $20m reasons why nobody is leaving though. We're going to have to look elsewhere.

FSU, easily.
Miami always has the NCAA hanging around it seems. Plus the trip is very far for many SEC fans.
VA Tech would be okay, but what will that program be like after Beamer retires? He's already 64.
FSU brings close proximity. A good program with National recognition. Also, decent basketball and great baseball. Perfect fit sports-wise.

with FSU's president leading the charge.

Miami is very risky. I think that there is a decent chance that they self-sanction themselves out of big time football for a decade or more. There were reports even before the latest scandal that Shalala wanted to demphasize football.
FSU and VT would be great gets for the SEC, but it's not looking likely at this point. Maybe things will look different tomorrow.

I agree that they're a reasonable candidate, but the geography is really starting to spread thin. College Station to Morgantown...

VT one thousand times before FSU and FSU one thousand times before Miami.

The location of Morgantown just isn't jiving with me...I would prefer to stick with teams further south...

Man, I'd love to have FSU. We used to play them a lot, and I really want them back on our schedule. If they're gonna get all this hype and get consistently voted into the top 10/15, we should at least make them earn it by putting them through an SEC schedule every year instead of letting them cakewalk through the ACC. And Tallahassee's not a bad drive from Auburn, and I've got family down there that are FSU fans, so I'd like to be able to play them every once in a while and talk smack about it
Plus, I feel like FSU would get the most national viewership out of the three, especially with how ESPN was riding them before the OU game. People all over the country are going to tune in to FSU games because they're doing so well right now and people are starting to think that they're "back".
VT's having a good run right now, but - and correct me if I'm wrong, because I don't really know much about them - they don't really have much of a history to back it up. And that just makes it less interesting for people to watch nationally because they aren't viewed as a perennial powerhouse.
And Miami has the opposite problem. Great history, but sucking it up pretty badly right now.

The issue of NCAA sanctions would be the biggest question mark.
I agree that FSU seems like the logical addition, given its location, and some of the natural rivalries that already exist.

I think the teams the SEC might take are:
Mizzou
WVU
TCU
Lousiville
MAYBE Oklahoma and Ok St. I think they would have to be a package deal.

Me too - it's also why I'm against any remaining Big XII teams. I'd take Texas, but even Austin is pushing it geographically for me. Missouri? Might as well at Oregon while we're at it. :)

Conspiracy theory:
SEC considering FSU, VT, and Clemson for membership. FSU's president voted to increase the buyout to eliminate its competitors, knowing the others would not be willing or able to pay the buyout, whereas FSU would.
