Nope, gotta go with the others here. West Virginia is not a Southern state; therefore, it should not be in the Southeastern Conference.

I am a regionalist. So be it.

Hell, Indiana, Missouri, Kansas, and New Mexico are more redneck than most Southern states, but they don't belong in the SEC. Oklahoma gets a pass because most of them immigrated there from Southern states after the war. They even have a lot of towns and lakes named after Alabama towns due to the Creek influence.

To answer your actual question.

NO.

Morgantown is at altitude and it snows from early November on.

Their rival is Pitt. They should make the best of the big east.
If the ACC crumbles, they can get Boston back and ask Temple to come back to the big east, all is forgiven.

WVU, could fit in the SEC, passionate fans, good football and BBall and a party school...if the SEC expands to 16 only..

Parts of WV are southern parts are not, ts Just as parts of VA, MO and MD are southern, some are not...but hell WVU is way closer to southern than OK and TX are related to the "Pacific"..

VT is afraid to turn down the SEC

i'd say this is true because most people agree that if VT turns down an offer from the SEC, then the SEC will just take the next best teams from the ACC and essentially leaving VT stuck in a much weaker conference

i'm going to debunk a few things on some of you saying west virginia is not a southern state.

the line which deteremined if a state is southern or northern was the mason dixon line. 90-95% of west virginia lays below that line

west virginia split off from virginia at the onset of the civil war, why did they do that? it wasn't due to the issue of slavery or which side they supported. the issue was fair and equal representation within the state of virginia's legislature (sp). the people who were west of the blue ridge were taxed at a higher rate and given less representation within the virginia state government. and this started back in the 1700's. the civil war gave us the means to our own ends. to be our own state. it had nothing to do with slavery or which side we supported. the first land battle of the civil war was in phillipi west virginia. the confederates best general came from west virginia. general stone-wall jackson. (some may wish to contend this point, but by far and large he was the south's best strategical/logistical military mind)

morgantown is still a closer drive for knoxville than baton rouge is for knoxville. yes it snows, tn gets snow just the same.

West Virginia University has the sixth-most Rhodes Scholars of public higher learning institutions in America. WVU has 25 Rhodes Scholars

we also bring a football program that has never been on ncaa suspension or probation. how many sec schools can say that? only one and that would be vanderbilt.

our fans travel and we party.

but back to my original. wvu is southern afterall we know how to make sweet tea. get north of the ohio river and you won't find any

as far as "not in the South" goes...one trip through West Virginia and you would notice that its just like Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, or any other southern state that I've driven through...and people aren't any different...

Holt ... I lived in Huntington for two years and WV is nothing like dixie. You guys have a lockdown on hoodies and jorts.

Huntington is quite possibly the worst example when determining WV as a southern state...Huntington is more like Detroit than Birmingham...well come to think of it, Huntington is overran by Detroit drug dealers...

and yes we are different from the typical south, 90% of guys have short hair that doesnt flop in our eyes...

You can't use the Mason Dixon line as justification. The lower quarter of NJ is below the Mason Dixon line. Atlantic City Cape May

West Virginia, good football and basketball programs no doubt, nice, hard working people, fans love their team and show passion, but WVU is not the right fit for the wants and needs of the SEC from a business and recruiting standpoint. Virginia Tech or a North Carolina is who the SEC wants. I think West Virginia would be a better fit for the ACC.

"you were still against us yankee"

lol, no we weren't. it was a border state and was for neither side. a great many land battles of the civil were fought in west virginia

personally my mom's side of the family owned slaves and fought for the south. my dad's side of the family fought for the north.

come on up into jackson, ritchie, mingo, and quite a few other county's and use the term "yankee". see how fast you get ignored and generally scoffed at.

what west virginia is. a mountain state with a blue collar population that believes in hard work, family, and god. you have to be of sturdy stock to have survived up in those mountains.

we just don't have gators
