West Virginia

And you expand your territory.

But unless you expand your territory you're not going to add new markets. Adding FSU, Clemson, or Georgia Tech doesn't bring the SEC any markets it doesn't already have.
Again my first choice is VT because of the possibility of the DC market. NC State is #2 since the Charlotte and Research Triangle markets are fast-growing. WVU is at #3.

mizzou
i dont know about yall, but i dont want to add 4 more football powerhouses. an average/ above average football program is what im looking for, assuming the bring something else to the table. we are splitting up conference titles enough as it is, the last thing we need is a revitalized florida st, OU, UT, and ohio st to come in and diluting that number even further....

I agree with this.
The only issue I have with Mizzou is that they want to be in the B1G so bad, if they joined the SEC how quickly would they be looking to leave? (If you think the criticism of TCU jumping conferences is bad...)
Here are my picks for new adds, all of which are in new states:
1. Virginia Tech
2. North Carolina State
3. West Virginia
4. Oklahoma State
5. Missouri
If some posters are right about 20-team conferences being the norm, grab all five and you're now at 18. (Plus five more new states.)
(We may have to rename the Southeastern Conference as the "Sports Excellence Conference", at least we can keep our logo!)

And Mizzou delivers St. Louis and KC?

Why, yes, it does....
Plus, you have St. Louis as a site for football and basketball championship site.

We could just invite the babe in the pic and give her an LSU Tshirt

Please God not Missouri. That would mean no auburn in the west. Awful trade off.

No it doesn't. STL and KC are pro sports towns, especially STL which has more interest in baseball than anything else. I have relatives living south of STL, I know what is big up there.

People think NOLA is dangerous? It's utopia compared to STL.

Mizzou has the TV markets, the alums, the facilities, the academics. They have also shown to be competitive in football and basketball.
WVU is not a legit comparison.

Competitive in the (former) Big 12 North = competitive in the WAC before Boise State left.
All Mizzou had to do was beat Nebraska, which most of the time they didn't.

and basketball
You mean the team that was so good their coach left for Arkansas?
If Mizzou comes fine. But right now I'd put their athletics around that of Georgia. And I probably should go ahead and apologize to Dawg fans for the comparison.

WVU's football stacks right up with Mizzou in my opinion, and they've been clearly superior in basketball recently with a Final Four and one of the biggest names coaching in college.

Would give the Vols a run for their money?
Posted on 9/6/11 at 10:05 pm to WildcatMike
I could see WVU as a 15th or 16th team, not a 13th or 14th.
If the Pac 12 or the Big Ten go to 16, the SEC will have to respond in kind. I see it as:
13-TAMU
14-Va. Tech
15-WVU
16-Mizzou, if they don't goto the Big Ten, or NC State if all else fails.

The SEC is already a national conference. They're routinely on TV sets across the entire country. This isn't about adding any particular TV market, because you already have them all.
I think we have the huge advantage over Mizzou because we're a much more national brand. Our alumni base stretches up from Philly, Baltimore and DC down through Charlotte and Atlanta. We've had some of the highest rated ESPN games of all time. Plus, our fanbase is borderline retarded...a much better fit than the wannabe blue bloods of Missouri.
