I work w/ a UT fan and I said to him Texas comes across extremely arrogant considering the TV deal and all, so it appears UT would be perfectly content keeping the Big-12 w/ the current schools (minus A&M) by adding cupcakes like UH, SMU,Rice, and one or two other irrelevant schools.
He pretty much seemed quite content w/ that because it would come done to OU/UT every year and BCS bowl game chances increase.
I mean do tea-sippers want a seriously diluted conference just because they have their TV deal now among other reasons?

yeah.....as long as it serves their agenda
UT's only desire is be in a conference where it gets the biggest seat at the table. The second any notion of equality hits the board, UT smells sour milk. Of course UT wants to keep the big12 together, no other conference (except maybe the ACC) will let them get away with what they do in the big12. The B1G wont have it, the PAC12 wont have it, and neither will the SEC. UT's about to be stuck on an island. Granted, they own the island, but it's still an island.
Mike Leach said it this morning on the radio. This is all about money and nothing to do with academics or honor or prestige. This is 100% about money and Texas is accustomed to having the most money, any threat to that status is not going to be allowed by the powers that be in UT's governing body.

Apparently to UT fans, money is more important than good football. Sad!

I would be pretty content with that as well, though I would not say UH is cupcake. Until the BCS is gone and replaced with a real playoff, there is no benefit in having a tough schedule.
University presidents do not care about athletic championships for the most part. They care about academics and financial stability. The way to contribute to both of those goals through athletics is constant national exposure, without a playoff an easily undefeated season in an average conference is the easiest way to achieve that.
This is not the attitude of fans, but fans have no control over college athletics.

Maybe in the cupcake conferences but in the SEC they do!

Yeah, the toughest conference in the country can attest to that.

OK, so what you're saying is that for the UT brass and fans it is about money and prestige.
Confirms by belief UT really wants to be like ND, which means championships(national) are a thing of the past. Good.

That's the difference between an LSU fan and a UT fan. While I want LSU to play Auburn, Bama, Florida, Oregon, etc for big games with big impact, UT fan would be content to settle for UH, SMU, Rice, Iowa St..and be happy. The atmosphere at a UT game is nothing like LSU's atmosphere. LSU's is a spectacular event - UT is...well not so much.

Then you've never been to Tiger Stadium at 3:00am when nobody is there. Halftime at a UT game is almost identical to that.

I actually said very specifically that this is not the attitude of most fans.

I have been to enough games to know that it's just not the same level of passion across the board. The pageantry is more silly and not taken as seriously. It reminded me of the circus.
I distinctly remember seeing some "lucky" male student dancing the waterdance or square dancing with the cheerleaders in the endzone during a timeout. So, it seemed to me like they wanted to make the event more like a joke. It was as if they had written off any pretense of "college type" atmosphere...
And don't me started on the band leader prancing around in that silly way either...

FIFY
Deadest game atmosphere I've ever witnessed (even in their good years). The thanksgiving game last year was the quietest I've ever known 100K people to be.

yeah I usually go to at least one game a year, especially when I have trouble sleeping. The silence in DKR is theraputic

I'll admit the atmosphere at UT games could be better. It's too much a social event for many.
Plus the same folks who gave us the fabulous longhorn network installed a video board years ago to rival Jerryworld's, that screams Taco Bell commercials at 15 million decibels half the game. I am in the minority that disliked all the changes to the stadium though.

Probably because they are so used to playing the Rice, Kansas, and Baylors of the world - but content with that as well.

Comparing tailgate scenes is equally as funny. UT fans tailgate in parking garages. I have trouble even considering what they do "tailgating"

Texas tailgate scene!
