I'll just leave it up to people that are a lot smarter than I to determine if the positives of adding A&M outweigh the negatives. I'm sure if Slive needs any help he'll make an appearance here at TD to get any clarification on geography, academics or whatever other criteria they are using to make the decision.
once again...my issue isn't with A&M, rather expansion as a whole. I guess it's about A&M, Missou, Ok State, OU, FSU, VaTech, Clemson, and anybody else who has been sniffed.

Still, by all accounts Slive is a very very smart businessman, the best commish in the country. I don't see any way the current system stays in place much longer. If he waits until it explodes and is a free for all, then he risks losing one of the largest opportunities to grab eyeballs that exists.
I'm not asking this sarcastically, I really don't know. Are there any other schools out there that the SEC could add that would provide as much bottom line impact and negotiating power as A&M right now?
You have a very willing partner, and a school that at least somewhat fits the SEC mold.
I really do think it's a no-brainer for Slive, or he wouldn't be going through the pains that he is right now to get us added.
This after we turned down the opportunity last year because we were idiots.

They fit as much as Arkansas, so I'd be quiet before throwing claims like that around.

Not sure how serious that opportunity was after this circus.

Maybe Florida State...

FSU wouldn't because of UF.
And it was easier last year with NU and CU bolting

Yes, in the old days. Now, why are we expanding? What is the purpose? What is wrong with the current system?
I can't answer your questions. What I can tell you is that like it or not conferences are going to expand and I'd prefer the SEC to be proactive rather than reactive. Because when it happens do you want good schools in our conference or suffer the humiliation of adding teams that no one else wants like Louisville, ECU and CFU? That is what you must ask yourself.

The SEC has its own BCS tie in, they do not have to expand if the others do. The league is in the drivers seat and will still win the BCS National Championship around 80 percent of the time when playing another out of conference team.

Hawg, A&M = more money = better facilities/coaches pay = better recruiting = more wins.
Get it? To stay on top this move needs to be done. Proactive. Status quo is warm and fuzzy but it's time to take the next step. A&M is done with the Big XII. If the SEC passes we will contact other conferences. The SEC can't afford to miss the Texas market in realignment

Truth. A&M's AAU membership qualifies it for the B1G and the PAC-12 would look upon that favorably as well.

And they won't. Slive was sweating bullets last year with the PAC-16 rumors. They won't make the first move, but they will make the last -- acceptance of A&M's application to the SEC.

Who cares about Academics this is the SEC.
The conferences measure's its success on the football field not in the Classroom.

I would laugh very hardly if Texas squared out TAMU and put them in the cold by joining the SEC. They must have bigger fish on the line if they met and said no thanks to TAMU.
