While I admit that I'm new to the SEC politics, seems to me that Auburn fans are a little bit too eager to make the move East, whether they think it will be for easier competition (doubtful over the long term), or, more likely, just as a way to stick to Bama by making them give up the Tennessee annual game.

I vote that we keep UT and Auburn keeps LSU.

Going to 9 games and having 2 permanent cross divisional rivalries won't work. First off that leaves 5 teams cross division for an opponent to play, which means it would take 10 years to play every team twice (one home and one away). That is ridiculous.
The best thing to do in my opinion is go to 9 games and if Auburn is moved, cut the permanent rivalries out completely. This would even out the conference as a whole and you'd still play your rival twice every five years.

this is the way i feel about preserving traditional rivalries:
If you were starting a new conference that had NO rivalries and it consisted of 2 divisions and enough non conference games so that you could not or did not want to play a round robin, there is no doubt that you would rotate the non-divisional opponents (i.e. no permanent opponent). Why? because it is obviously the fair thing to do.
A traditional rivalry undermines fairness in favor of the two schools participating.
I say if you want to preserve the traditional rivalry, then play each other as a non conference game when it's not on the regular rotation.
Fairness is preserved. It just doesn't count as a conference game unless it's in the regular rotation.
If Tn/Ala or Aub/Ga doesn't like it, don't play each other except on the regular rotation. but don't ask the rest of the league to give up a fair formula for your benefit.

think it bull shite if the SEC goes out of it's way to preserve TWO rival games for bama. i wholeheartedly agree with preserving the iron bowl, but prserving the ut/bama game every year is bull shite. how about preserving other rivalries in the sec? what are we, chopped liver?
Its the nuttless SEC AD's that allow this. If all of the AD's outside of Alabama & Auburn would grow a pair shite like this would never happen.

There should be no cross conference rivals. Put rivals in the same division and be done with favoritism. Rotate out division games. Simple!

Congrats, you nailed it.

You're forgetting Tennessee and UGA, those games are important to 4 schools.

And Tennessee. And Georgia.

From the article:

The SEC cannot and will not give up the Auburn-Alabama and Alabama-Tennessee rivalries.

I'd say the whole issue about preserving rivalries is the most important to Tennessee. UT seems to be the only one who may lose their biggest rival if Auburn goes East.
