Pac-12 commish Larry Scott could have gotten the votes, decided it wasn't worth the hassle on Texas and its network, pulled the plug.

Pac-12 eventually adds Boise state, Fresno state, Nevada, BYU

I don't know why this keeps being repeated.

1. BYU is a forever no.
2. Boise State is not a chance - maybe in 30 years if they become a great university.
3. Fresno State??? Why not add Cal State Fullerton? Their good in baseball.
4. Nevada? I don't know where to begin.

Same here, people just throw names out there. The pac 12 just said no to OU and UT. Why the heck would they want those other schools

Well, Well....the Original Pac 8 told Larry Scott to either resign or accept the Pac 12 the way it is.

I never did think the California schools would except Texas. This is hilarious.

"Pac-12 decision came down Scott meeting with Texas and realizing there was no way the conference could be one of equals. So they passed. There was no vote...just a consensus among the presidents to end the expansion talk."

Aggies give the sec the texas market. Actually is a great pick up by the sec. better than OU.

SEC does not really need another elite team. Not nearly as bad as the Texas market which is huge.

So even if the SEC "just" gets Aggies, I think that will be quite a coup.

BTW, Mizzou AD came out and said no to the SEC. Looks like the Big 12 will remain together. Maybe WVU/louisville/BYU added to make 12 there.

Not sure who the SEC will eventually get for a 14th if the Big 12 and ACC remain together. Though I guess there is no reason you cant have a 13 team conf.

OU obviously knew about this before they released the statement about Beebe and the LHN so I am kind of confused why they did that. It is very obvious Texas isn't going to change anything with the LHN or fire their puppet just cause OU says so IMO. There must be something else going on with OU behind the scenes.

With Pac-12 not expanding, this likely means that the Big 12 will stay together with the exception of Texas A&M, which will move to the SEC. Missouri would stay in the Big 12 and the SEC would invite WVU as #14.

At least that is what WVU fans are praying happens.

The reality though is that from here on out, as long as the Big 12 and Big East exists, there will always be uncertainty and instability for any member institution tied to those conferences. When stable homes become a possibility for any school, they will bolt. If Mizzou is given a firm SEC or Big Ten offer, they are gone.

Don't sleep on OU. Sounds like OU is dead serious about using the threat of expansion as leverage to try and get concessions out of Texas.

Also, David Boren himself confirmed SEC interest in OU in the past.

Edit: Yes, I know OSU comes as part of the package, but apparently the SEC will accept that as a condition.

Put those two facts together with this no expansion announcement by PAC 12...just saying it makes sense for OU to get serious about the SEC in this scenario.

looks like the acc acted too early to their preemtive strike. wonder if those invites can be rescinded now.

I really question if the SEC or anyone else is interested in OU w/out Texas. You're getting a state with little TV value and a team that will beat most of your teams. Not to mention the baggage of OSU. A&M on the other hand is a win-win.

Looks like nobody wants UT!

Texas always wanted the Big 12 to survive. What we learned is OU doesn't merit a Pac offer without Texas. Poor okies.

This is a HUGE win for Texas.

quote:

Pat Forde called this earlier today. Said that OU wasn't attractive to the PAC 12 without Texas.

EVERYONE knew this....except for the okies.

quote:

Yea but if Big 12 stays pat, the UT OU rivalry could be nastier than ever. Especially if UT has to make concessions.

UT will never make concessions

quote:

Translated: "We would love to have UT's money but past experience has taught us that everything UT touches eventually crumbles (see SWC and Big 12)."

Sorry for partying

quote:

I don't think it is similar. I think the message this time is "We won't take OU unless UT comes with them and drops the unequal revenue sharing."

Exactly....this was a massive ego crush for the okies.

quote:

I cant wait to see how Dr D spins this into a Texas-centric response. Even when it's not about you, it's gotta be about you

Texas wouldn't budge on LHN - like we all knew.
OU thought it had an invite without Texas - wrong.

quote:

Regardless of the problems with the Longhorn network; it's been reported that OU didn't have the votes. At least 4 schools blocked adding OU and Oklahoma State.

I love it.

quote:

So Okie has to suck it up and keep letting Texas run their shite?

Yep

quote:

Can we just give A&M back and pretend none of this dumb shite even happened?

Hell no....the aggies are you weird cousin now. And they'll be broke when Baylor is done with them.

How can every possible alternative for Texas being eliminated be a good thing?

Texas has two choices: 1. Keep the Big12 together or 2. Go independent

Texas has backed itself into a corner IMO.

+1

And assuming A&M somehow continues its SEC march and Baylor, et al, drop their legal threats, will the SEC add one more team? Maybe this is what has held up announcing #14. Could it be Oklahoma alone? Could it be WVU's bid has new life? Or will somebody choke down a $20 million chunk and raid the ACC, just for laughs and giggles? It ain't over yet and the fat lady ain't singing, folks. We're dealing in raw power and greed...

Texas has always wanted the Big 12 to survive - this way, Texas has its own network and its own BCS conference. OU getting shot down in a solo attempt to go to the Pac is a HUGE win for Texas. How do you not see this?

yeah...I am sure those talks with the Pac-12, Big Ten and ACC were just to see how the weather was...why did your board of regents call a meeting on Monday?

It would be reckless not to look out for any eventuality but remember Chicken.....unlike the Presidents of OU and A&M, the Texas president was given the authority by the BOR to make the decision to stay in the Big 12 but not to change conferences.

Texas wants the LHN to survive at all costs and nowhere is better for that than the Big 12.
