I guess Harry S. Truman is your vision of a Southern
Truman's family sure was. They were burned out by Jayhawkers and his male relatives rode with William Quantrill. After he returned from World War I he went to visit his grandmother. She met him at the front door, told him to get his arse off her porch and not come back until he had removed his "Yankee uniform." Again, learn history. Ignorance is no excuse.

One thing that stood out to me (and that has stood out all along)...
Adding A&M and Mizzou would double the number of AAU members in the SEC. I know that's probably not a huge deal to most people who are thinking about football, but in terms of conference academic strength, it could only help.
The more I read about the AAU the less I'm impressed with it. There is a very strong bias against Southern schools as well as schools that don't have either a medical school or a large engineering school. Certain areas of research like agricultural are minimized. More importantly it's a joke that some schools aren't members by now. Georgia is a good example. Great school that should have been a member years ago. Georgia Tech waited until last year to be invited in.

it's not like the Big 12 as a whole is an academic phenom. Baylor is so damn over rated (despite their high tuition), tech and okie lite are tier 3 (or were).
Most of the perception of the Big 12 schools ripping on the SEC's academics is Texas. When hog fans say they are the most arrogant pieces of shite you will ever meet-we mean it.

Bushwackers? Quantrelle? sounds like mid west shoot outs to me and you answered your own revisionist history. HST wore a union uniform.
Maybe your idea of the south is Baltimore or Miami.

I fixed it. OK? As for Truman's "Yankee uniform" what did other U.S. soldiers from the south wear during World War I?

Nope. But I have been to Sterling Price's gravesite in St. Louis.

Missouri will still end up in the Bog 10...eventually.

Look at it like this, if Mizzou, TAMU, VT, and a North Carolina school come in all the stars/states in the rebel battle flag are represented in the conference.

I guess that you could say: "The South Will Rise Again" Or is it: We could say The South Will Rise Again, Ole Miss fans aren't allowed to say that anymore.

That is not something that escaped my attention. But I prefer calling them Confederate flags.

Here is how I feel about Mizzou:
I do not want you in our conference, the end
HOWEVER: If another civil war breaks out and those jawhawkers start giving you shite, we'll be there this time... promise! ... no really!

Did you know that as Sherman was conducting his campaign of murder, rape, arson and larceny through the South his personal bodyguard was comprised of soldiers from north Alabama? Yes, really.
Alabamians - no more trustworthy than their head football coach.

"Of course, the Big-12 may collapse tomorrow. But in the end, there's only upside for Missouri. If they join the SEC, they get to be part of the best college football conference in America. If they don't, then they don't have to be part of the goddamn South."

You morons and your South shite.
Mizzou is a fine addition, if it happens, to the SEC
it's fricking 2011 and some of you are debating crap that is of no relevance today
plus, the south isn't one kind of thing, or one kind of place it's a lifestyle generally and Missouri is as slow as the rest of us

I'm not debating anything. Read the posted link and pointed out the typical elitist crap. I don't care if they join the SEC or not

Moved to Jeff City-(central mo) from BR 4 yrs ago and I have son that is is a senior in HS and will either go to Mizzou or LSU. He wants to be a broadcaster so Mizzou is the best choice at this time. very diverse state and is conservative as they come. South is pretty much Arkansas. St Louis/ILL area is best compared to the BR and New Orleans area. KansasCity/SPringfield/Joplin area compared to the Hunstville AL and Tennesse area. Natural rival to Arkansas but the rest of the state including Columbia, Mo follows the pro game. It would be a good addition due to academics but the fans would not mesh well. to conservative. on a side note I was able to score personalized plates LSUNO1. Geaux Tigers!

You and staypuffdaddy need to actually read the article linked by the OP or gain some reading comprehension. I am not debating MIZZOU to the SEC.
The article is some ignorant diatribe about the god damn civil war and how it somehow relates to football. And it ends with this statement:
"Of course, the Big-12 may collapse tomorrow. But in the end, there's only upside for Missouri. If they join the SEC, they get to be part of the best college football conference in America. If they don't, then they don't have to be part of the goddamn South."
If you people are too ignorant to see how elitist and offensive that statement is, then

Once we get VT, we can move the conference office to Richmond! It will be like 1861 all over again!

st. louis is about as southern as dc is. yanks view it as a dixie town, while we see it as another decaying rust-belt yankee mess.
Posted on 9/3/11 at 12:04 pm to TigerMattSTL
Missouri is not Southern. I'm watching Fox Sports North and they have the Missouri game on.
