Do you have a source or is this speculation?
Liucci reporting tonight that OU to Pac is all but done deal.

I mention that b/c I don't think OU would commit to the Pac w/o a firm commitment from Texas.

my bias is what's going on is competing PR leaks between Texas and A&M atm.
Texas would prefer teh pac deal with everyone following. A&M would probably prefer the SEC but both are posturing to blame the other school right now for when the Big 12 fragments
The Big 12 no longer looks viable - they are presently only a regionally significant football conference with both Colorado and Nebraska gone

I can't disagree more. The best thing for A&M and college football is to retain the Big 12. They have a new TV deal coming and Texas was trying to take advantage of this entire situation and get a sweatheart deal with the Pac 10. By A&M taking the stance they did, which I think was a real threat to join the SEC, it has made the whole rethink the decision. A&M may have saved the likes of Baylor, KU, and K-State without ever realizing it. Texas was about to bully all of college football and the SEC and A&M stepped up.
The Big 12 and SEC do not need to be a part of "Mega-Conferences", they are mega-conferences. Everyone esle is playing second fiddle.
And I can't disagree with you more. When networks give deals they are paying for the big marquee match-ups that occur in the regular season. The smaller games they can match with other cheaper programming. The only games generating significant revenue for the networks in the Big-12 are OU-UT, OU-Neb, and UT-Neb.
There will be 1 game a year in the new Big-12. There's no way in hell they are going to swing $17M per team. It's this financial weakness that is allowing them to be ripped apart in the first place. CU and Nebraska didn't have to think twice before they bolted.
EDT: Should have said "disagree" which I have fixed, but that was obvious from the post.

Actually I hope the Big 12 can be salvaged and if it can then A&M should remain a key part of the equation.

There's one big game a year... There's no way they are going to get $17M a year for that.

they ain't done shite in a long time.
They were in the BCS National Title game in 2001. Last year, they were seconds away from playing in a BCS game. quote:
the amount of people who follow cu in Denver is probably less than the amount that follow tcu.
I'm not even sure if TCU sold out their stadium once last year. That's including their college gameday game against Utah...

I missed that little gem
That's probably the dumbest non Political Board comment of the day

IF there is a Big XII intact, TU will probably go ahead with their own network and get one more up on everybody else in the conference. TU can only do its network if it stays in the Big XII - they can't do it in the PAC 10.
Personally I'd like to see TAMU stick it to TU.

The only way the Big 12 survives long term if the Aggies leave is if they could miraculously convince ND to join.

How many big games a year are there going to be in the new pac 16? I thought I read the two 'divions' were not going to play eachother very often and there would be no championshi game.

Attendance for the Utah game was over 50k in a 44k stadium. Yeah, they've had attendance problems in recent years, but a lot of that is still tied to the SWC dissolving. They always got big crowds for those conference games, even though they stunk for years. It's still tough for most of the alumni to get pumped for home games against New Mexico and UNLV, not to mention they get scarce visiting support from MWC schools. When they had TxTech and Baylor at home in recent years, the crowds were better than normal, so attendance shouldn't make TCU less attractive for the Big 12.

Which is why if they get a decent contract from FOX, it won't last. The PAC-16 is doomed from the start. This is why the PAC-10 contract sucks.

if the PAC wants a prayer of the merger making television money they should pair up the most marketable teams as permanent opp division opponents
So Texas or OU always plays USC for example - the other team would always play UCLA or Oregon probably

Exactly, but they are talking about separating them and not even having a conference CG. Epic Fail!

I stand by my OP. A&M will stay.
