Gone, in what sense? Texas A&M still desires to play the University of Texas every season.

Biggest in-state rivalry in one of the nation's biggest football states--hell yeah we still want to play y'all. Question is, are y'all too pussy to schedule us?

If they don't schedule you, it's probably because they don't care enough about the game.

I don't understand this logic. I've always gotten the impression that Horns fans would be happier if A&M fans just left them alone entirely.

They enjoy having peons that will kowtow to what's best for texas regardless of whether it's best for that particular school. Having A&M in the same conference was good for texas (disregard their spin), regardless of what they collectively thought of our Thanksgiving game or not. Why do you think their admins used not playing us on T-day as leverage the past two years (side note: they've threatened not to play A&M in years past when they felt the Aggies were operating at cross purposes with them--see their forcing us to fire our successful football coach in order to gain admittance to the old SWC.)

Growing up in Texas in the 80's and 90's watching college football, trust me, nobody really cared about Texas/OU. It was a "rivalry", I guess, but without doubt the game everyone in the state, including Horns fans, had circled on the calendar was the Horns/Ags game. It often was to decide the conference champion that year. During the same timeframe, OU's bigger rival was Nebraska in the Big 8.

Since 1998, the Texas/OU rivalry has become a bigger focus due to division/conference championship implications.

While Horns fans might like to talk a big game like they don't care about the A&M rivalry, they are simply blowing smoke. For the bulk of the state of Texas - kids, parents, students, etc. - the Horns/Ags rivalry is still the biggest game of the year. That is why Loftin and co. want to retain the rivalry. It certainly does not make sense from a strategic standpoint to want to play Texas every year after playing an SEC schedule.

Just beat them this year and they won't have a choice. No way Texas ends the series with back to back Aggie wins.

I'm guessing that your opinion of the University of Texas wasn't too high

ohiovol, thats what they say. Its not how they feel. They are women scorned at this point. We wouldnt stay in their prop up conference for them to build the LHN and try to rule the world. Its like how a bully acts when you take your ball to a different playground. Like a bitch.
