What gives? UT is trying to flex political muscle to get the move stopped. Unfortunately there's not much this group can do.. In fact, in the past year, this group has heaped major admiration in A&Ms direction due to their response to budget cuts and have used them as a model for other universities. They cannot pass laws or even vote on anything until 2013. They're lame ducks who are just acting on behalf of the money that put them in that position.
Shockingly this new attempt to keep A&M in the Big XII by Texas is in stark contrast to the "let them go" montra Texas was following until things looked to be done..

Big 12 commissioner Dan Beebe has told Texas A&M that Texas holds the key to the long-term future of the Big 12
That would be the problem, dumbfrick.
Texas is doing everything it can to enrich itself at the expense of the remainder of the league, which is why A&M wants out.
The only thing I'm surprised about is that OU isn't looking for the door as well.

No joke.. They've got an Okie Light problem though.

OU may change their minds if it comes down to taking a half-assed deal with the Pac 12 to come in with Okie State or going to the SEC as the 14th team.

Branch just wants testimony from Loftin on why they are leaving and the economic impact it will have on A&M from a university standpoint and city standpoint.
Dennis Dodd was on Chip Brown's show this morning explaining that Dr Tom did the exact same thing when Nebraska left for the Big10
just a formality

That comment makes me think that, when things shake out, the SEC will be a 16 team conference in 2013, as will the Pac & Big 10.
Four 16 team Super Conferences is the future of BCS football

I don't think Texas is behind this, it is Baylor and Tech. If it is Texas, why did they just have their mouthpiece (Beebe) tell A&M to frick off an go to the SEC?

(back to Dennis Dodd & Chip Brown from this morning)
they both described Norman as a "black hole for information" as they were laughing about just how tight-lipped things were yesterday as they were clawing to get anything out of OU

This will be a good move financially for a&m and will ease their little brother syndrome.
As far as success on the field, they'll be the equivalent of Ole Miss, IMO. Too many recruiting foes in their 'hood. Texas, OU, and now Ark., LSU and the rest of the SEC. In addition to a brutal schedule. Good luck w/ all that. They'll fire their coaching staff within 2 years of joining.
I will say Texas laid an egg with the LHN and overall arrogance. The Big 12 was a fantastic conference without scaring everyone off. I guess UNL left partly due to getting their arses beat too much, but still.

Dr. D, Regarding the political will, Texas legislature won't meet again until 2013, right? So at this point there isn't much they can do.
I say at ATM to the West and FSU to the East.

So basically you're saying that a team that has beat Texas 3 of the past 5 years would never be better than a middle of the road team in the SEC?
....What does that say about your school?

I think he is saying that a team that had one national title in the 30s and which hasn't had a top 5 finish in over a half century will be no better than a middle of the road team.

Valid point on Beebe. He definitely gave A&M all the ammo it needs to get through this meeting without a hitch. The Big XII-3 staying together without A&M and having the opportunity to add another Texas school to a BCS conference should be a WIN-WIN situation for the State.

Then Texas would be no better than a middle of the road team in the SEC as well... The argument that A&M is somehow destined to be a middle of the road team is just fricking dumb. Not quite as dumb as saying A&M is scared of Texas, but pretty damn close.

Are you saying A&M and Texas are equal in those respects? Texas has 4 undisputed national titles since A&M last title. Texas has finished in the top 3 in the country 2 of the last 3 seasons and aggie hasn't finished in the top 5 in over 50 years. Texas is 2nd in all-time wins. Based on my post and your response, you seem to be really confused.
