Take this for what it's worth as it is hearsay, but worth a post. A Co-worker in my Oklahoma City office sat in one of the regent's suite this past Saturday at the OU-Tulsa game in Norman. I asked her what the conference realignment buzz was there and she said the regents are not indiscreet about their eagerness to get an invitation to the new Pac-16. She said one regent told her they have already agreed to grant OU President David Boren the green light to an invitation and expect it to happen in two to three weeks, consistent with the rumors. What surprised me is what she said about Texas. The regent told her if Texas doesn't join the Pac-16 with OU, the TX-OU rivalry game is done. They are willing to sacrifice that if necessary to make the move, and will more than likely have to. That's a big game to these okies so that's a bit surprising to me. Again, take it for what it's worth.

If OU leaves, I think our game with the whorns is much more likely to continue than the RRS. When the Big 12 was formed, OU's rivalry with Nebraska (which was huge back in the day) completely changed, and now it's gone for the time being. If OU sacrifices the RRS and the whorns continue to be petty and follow through on not playing us, t.u.'s big rivalry will be with Tech? Baylor? Don't see that happening.

i can't see this happening. OU depends on their texas pipeline to keep the star recruits rolling in...not playing anymore texas teams will hurt them big time. i still believe they are tied to the hip with UT.

If Texas went to the ACC they would have to sacrifice one of these games. They could keep them both if they went indy. Going to the Pac-16 with OKU would work as it would only be one locked non-conference game to worry about.

If that game ends I will walk about 15 blocks north and personally go burn down Bellmont (UT athletic office). I don't care whose fault it will be that the game ended (I actually don't want the TX-A&M game to end either).

Hopefully this post (one of my 7 or 8 ever on this site??) isn't used as evidence against me one day.

In all seriousness now - I realized my earlier post was in extremely poor taste given the fire problem in central Texas. Hopefully no one who read it was offended - I have a couple friends displaced right now, luckily no loss of life or property.

I'll just write a strongly worded letter to Deloss.

Sounds like Stoops agrees with this:

quote:

"I don't think it's necessary. No one wants to hear that, but life changes," Stoops said Tuesday. "If it changes, you've got to change with it to whatever degree. If it works, great. I love the game. But if it doesn't, it doesn't. Sometimes that's the way it goes. Life goes on. People find other rivalries. You find other fun places to go and enjoy the game, enjoy the experience. I think it's obvious we'll always have a great product that's exciting to follow. We always have great TV audiences. Whatever happens, we'll adjust to it."

I would be surprised if either school gives it up. Was this because OU/UT would want to end it?

As for UT and aTm rivalry I think it would be even more bitter and hated now that aTm jumped ship and that makes for some great football games.
