Brando Show Says Mizzou Agreed to Big 12 Media Contract

If true then it would mean they are stuck as Bevo's bitch for at least another six years. Also if true they should tar and feather their curators. After that they will be Big East or WAC bound.

If this is true, heads are gonna roll. Multiple heads.

the curator's meeting hasn't happened yet

Doesn't mean there isn't a verbal agreement. They go into executive session at 4:00.

If this does indeed happen, you will see a damn mutiny.
90% of Mizzou fans want the SEC. Staying in the Bevo 9 would be a deathwish for the admins' job security.

Depends on what he's saying as well. The President of the school can "agree" to it, but only the Board of Curators can bind the school to it, unless they've given permission for the President to bind the school to it already.
Saying Mizzou agrees to the media contract doesn't necessarily mean anything in and of itself. Need more detail to know what's going on.

exactly, one rumor is just as good as any other until that session closes.

Putting myself into MU's shoes I probably would have prefered the Big 10 because it gives me more regional rivals to play on a regular basis - but failing that I would take the SEC as my second option.
In the SEC they will have to rely on playing A&M to recruit Texas (this is an issue for them: they get talent out of Texas and in the Big 12 they played up to three teams from Texas in a given year)
They will have to schedule smartly out of conference too. One of the really smart things the MU people had done over the last decade was playing Illinois in STL and Kansas in KC (raising their profile in both major cities in state). Those would both have to be out of conference games if they came to the SEC - and they would have to balance playing those opponents ooc versus playing at other venues like TCU, Houston, SMU etc to help them recruit Texas.

I think the days of regional rivalries are over. It's all about the national stage now.

only for the very top of the heap - for the middle tier and lower tier BCS teams they need reasons to be involved emotionally
This is kinda the biggest challenge to overcome with the megaconferences - how to design a system that keeps as many regional rivalries as possible and declaring a single conference champ
It is doable tho - as long as the NCAA allows a conference that expands to 16 teams to have a two round conference playoff (4 division champs)

Brando doesn't know much. Mizzou is gone.

Mizzou is a better fit for the big 12 than SEC. It plays regularly against it's historical rivals in Kansas State, Kansas, Iowa State, and Oklahoma.
Honestly conference affiliation has to be about getting the best opportunity to win games. I think competively the big 12 gives MU the best chance. They recruit in the Midwest and Texas and that's their identity in the Midwest.
I see Mizzou having more winning seasons in the big 12 versus the SEC and more 8-9-10 win seasons compared to the SEC.

Except in about 6 years at most, the Big 12 is going through this again. Texas and OU are going to bolt, and Mizzou is going to get stuck in the MVC or something like that.
They may not go to the SEC because their academics (as in the people) are seriously against it. But if they don't, they will look at this decision in twenty years and realize that today was the day that Mizzou athletics died.

Tim Brando would be the last person to look to for accurate information,

sad but true.
some Ags (mostly younger ones) might disagree but I really do miss playing in the SWC b/c of all the rivalries. It was really fun talking smack to all the fans from the various Texas schools.

culturally and geographically they are.

With all due respect to Oklahoma (whom I wished were joining our conference rather then the lame aggy/mizzery duo, I'm thinking there is no cultural or geographic fit for the Big 12.
Texass is Texass and all the rest just sort of play along. I guess you could split hairs between Oklahoma and Texass but Texass has very little in common with Kansas, Mizzery and points north.
So. Come on in OU. The water is fine and we need a quality program, not some never mattered also rans.

I've spent a lot of time in Missouri. They aren't really a "perfect fit" for any conference because that state is where east meets west and north meets south.
St. Louis metro is an old rustbelt Midwest city. It's essentially a smaller, warmer Chicago. It's a perfect fit for the Big Ten.
Northern Missouri is mostly rural. I drove down from Iowa in the summer of 2005, and nothing changed once I crossed borders. I even saw a number of Amish on horses on the highway, not something I expected to see in Missouri.
Kansas City is solidly Heartland. It's Big 12 country. The Big 8 had their league offices there.
The southern half of Missouri is a great fit for the SEC. When you go to Springfield, Branson, or Joplin you are essentially (culturally) in Arkansas.
I think that Missouri is the best 14th school out there and will be happy to see them in the conference.
