Posted on 8/18/11 at 10:31 pm to GatorNDAHood

"Mizzou isn't bad with Pinkel. But I think their brand of football is too soft for the SEC. Might not translate well"
Didn't they beat your arse in cs last year?

It would be awful actually. I don't get this urgent desire to get the SEC (or other conferences for that matter) to 16 teams. STILL haven't figured out why 16 is some mythical magic number that MUST be reached. Can ANYONE explain this to me??? Why can't you have say FIVE 14 team super conferences instead of FOUR 16 team super conferences?? You could just as easily have a 10 team playoff (5 automatic bids and 5 at large bids based on BCS standing) with a 5 super conference format. #7 vs #10 as well as #8 vs #9 would be play in games for the #7 and #8 seeds. These two games would be on the higher seeds home field the week after conference titles games.
I want A&M in the West and Virginia Tech in the East and BE DONE WITH EXPANSION FOR GOOD!! 16 team conferences with ruin schedules and traditional rivals around the country. Either you keep the traditional division model and only play 2 non-conference games a year or you set up goofy 4 team pod systems in each conference. Either way it's an absolute clusterfrick. Any model that forces teams to switch divisions is a horrible one.
PUHLEEEEZZEEE limit expansion to 14 teams. A&M in the West and Virginia Tech in the East. As for Virginia not allowing Va Tech to leave, I've seen Va Tech fans say that wouldn't be an issue if it came down to them leaving. Most Va Tech fans are happy in the ACC but they also admitted that they'd be fools not to accept an invitation from the SEC if it ever came.

I would love to see VT be the 14th team; VT and A&M are so similar they would be perfect rivals.

I don't think T. Boone ever lets OU and OSU split up. He has palms greased in Oklahoma.
Not sure why the SEC hates the Cowboys so much. They're becoming a consistently solid program and top-ten team this year. They could wind up winning the conference with playing OU at home. Also have very strong traditions in hoops and baseball, and not that it matters much in the SEC but wrestling.

I think he fears OSU losing access to Texas recruits. If he were to step back for a minute, he would see that if OSU were to take A&M's approach and differentiate itself from its rival by offering recruits SEC participation, it could carve its own niche. It may not be as strong as OU, no more than A&M may be as strong as Texas, but right now it can't hope to be more than the 3rd best team in the Big 12-2 (behind Texas & OU), competing with Tech, A&M, Mizzou, and occasionally K-State.

It's not hatred. It's that OSU doesn't bring much in terms of media presence like OU does (OU commands the Oklahoma media markets plus a good chunk of DFW). Slive would like to have OU by itself but most likely this won't happen.
However, if Slive is having trouble getting a 14th (or 16th) team, he won't go wrong with OSU and doesn't have many other options. Mizzou will always be looking for a B1G invite, ISU/KU/K-State are too far north, Tech is too far west, OU can't come alone, Texas has no interest in the SEC, and Baylor -- well, let's just say that if the SEC needs a weekly walkover, at least Rice has AAU credentials and fits well with Vandy.

What do you mean by "at large bids"?
Would those be teams that weren't good enough to win their conference?
If so, why would they be good enough to play for a national championship?
I REALLY just don't want to see a team win a national championship without having won their conference championship. That would pretty much make the conference championships meaningless.
Now maybe 5 major conference champions and 3 champions out of the lower tier conferences - based on SOS/BCS whatever. That way everyone in it are conference champions and there is no threat of a lawsuit by the smaller conferences about leaving them out.

By "at large bids", I'm talking about very highly ranked teams that didn't win their conference. The idea of an 8-4 team that just happened to win their weak conference being more deserving than a 1 loss team from a stout conference that didn't win its conference is abhorent to me. Suppose the SEC and Big Ten both had 2 teams each in the Top 10 at season's end. That leaves a Top 10 team in each conference on the outside if you go strictly by your format. The 5 automatic bids would go to the 5 conference winners while the 5 "at large" bids go to extremely strong teams that happened to play in extremely strong divisions and didn't win their conference.
Perfect example would be the 2008 and 2009 SEC Championship games where Bama and Florida were ranked #1 and #2 each year when they played each other. Under your format, only the winner would make the playoff while the Top 5 rated team even after the loss would be left out while a winner of a much weaker conference that might have 3 or 4 total losses would automatically go ahead of the Top 5 team. That's a fricked up system.

it has nothing to do with what the fans want, politicians absolutely will not let OU leave OSU or VT walk out on UVA.
this is not going to happen, folks.

Thank you at least some people understand why VT isn't going anywhere b/c this one guy posting seems totally clueless about what happened to get VT in the ACC when they back stabbed the BE

OU won't join the SEC while Stoops is the Coach because he is a huge pussy and doesn't want to play a tough schedule. OU will get it's arse handed to them by whoever they play in the BCS game they don't deserve to be in this year.
