Then if the coach does fail you can bitch and moan on the message board that the AD sucks. All the while our program takes 6-8 years to climb back up to where they were before the new hire. No big deal, roll the dice.

Most head coaches who have succeeded at high profile jobs - Spurrier, Carroll, Tressell, Brown, Holtz, Saban, Meyer would all say that they need every year of HC experience to handle the pressure and responsibilities at their bigger jobs.

That's only because they then landed Meyer, who saved the program. Even with Meyer, he had a fair amount of risk because he was coming from a smaller conference and had an unconventional offense for the SEC. But Florida was fortunate.
I'd rather not roll the dice at any time. It took LSU a long time to get to this point. We endured Archer, Hallman, Dinardo before finding Saban and then Miles.
Lots of programs have wallowed in mediocrity for 10-15 years by taking risky hires (Oklahoma before Stoops, USC before Carroll, Texas before Brown, and ND since the mid 90s).

I agree. The Richt hire at UGA has worked out for them for the most part. You don't have to win a national title for a hire to be successful. When you limit your search to sitting head coaches, you limit your talent pool. But, I do understand the concern of a coordinator coming in to a place like LSU where there is a lot of pressure and impatient fans. Having a guy who has experience running his own program at another school and can bring some folks from his current staff he has been working with to help with the transition is always a plus.

Not me. I've been mentioning him for several years(can probably find some posts in the old threads on this board doing so). The question is would he ever leave his alma mater. It would have to be a situation where a program like LSU or Texas is looking for someone to turn their program around and the money would have to be really good.

The only reason we would need a head coach is if Jim Harbaugh goes to the NFL, which is highly likely that he will get an invite to at least interview with several NFL teams.
