To be fair, he has Dee Hart, who was a 5 star recruit and the only reason he never lived up to it at Bama was knee injuries.

I can't believe anyone is questioning what he has done at C State. Whether that translates to him being a successful HC at a big time program is another matter, but what he has done with the Rams is awesome. Are you actually saying that losing to Boise and Air Force are bad losses for them? Wrong. Just wrong.

So McElwain is basically Sonny Lubbick 2.0? I mean let's not pretend CSU is Duke or something, they were a pretty good team for a long time.

They play in the Mountain West for Christ sakes. CSU's entire schedule could be a LSU OOC cupcake.

You love you some McElwain threads.

That's true, but CSU was really trailing off in Lubick's final years. The administration basically elbowed him out to replace him with Steve Fairchild, which was a disastertastrophe. Fairchild had an okay first year and followed it up with three consecutive 3-9 seasons before McElwain showed up and righted the ship.
It wouldn't be a "sexy" hire in the mold of Nick Saban, Urban Meyer, or hypothetically Jon Gruden/Chip Kelly. But those kinds of hires are the exception, not the rule. I think McElwain would be a really good get.

I didn't think Urban was a sexy hire at all. It was a new offense that I didn't particularly want at UF and he was from Utah.
Bernie Machen had a lot to do with Foley picking Meyer in my opinion since POS Bernie was at Utah with Meyer and hired him there.
This is not a sexy hire but if I'm being honest, there is no sexy hire out there that is actually truly available. No one is paying Freeze 8 mil for one good season. Kelly is in the middle of a playoff run and even if he wanted to leave, it would be hard to wait that long for him.
Sexy isn't happening.

Really? I felt like with ND clamoring for him and his really impressive success at both Bowling Green and Utah, he was a pretty hot commodity at the time.

Like I said, in my opinion, it rarely does. Thinking of some examples of successful head coaches who are pretty well-known...
Bob Stoops - DC from Florida
Pete Carroll - NFL reject, something like 5th or 6th choice for USC
Les Miles (seriously, LSU fans, I'm not trolling) - decent coach at Oklahoma State
Jimbo Fisher - OC at LSU, then at FSU
Mark Richt - OC at FSU
And there are certainly more; every big program thinks they're entitled to land the "Nick Saban" type hire, but that just doesn't happen much.

He's a Yankee with a weird offense. I didn't like it. Turns out that he won by coddling the bad guy athletes. I didn't like that.
I can't wait until Tim Tebow writes a tell all book about that lost souls he couldn't save.

Meyer was national coach of the year, was the first non-BCS coach to win a BCS bowl, and was easily the hottest coaching prospect in America when we hired him. He was as close as you can get to a sure thing outside of a coach who already has a national title.
If you weren't excited about him because he was an offensive innovator you would have probably have been hating on Spurrier when he was hired as well- Florida wins win offensive innovation not by copying Bama and other SEC programs.

Ole boy could eat an apple through a chain link fence. Freeze would be the happiest man on earth if we hire Jim.

Loved Spurrier. Hated Urban. Deal with it.

Based on what's out there. I can learn to love Jim and those toofs.

Socratic you better root go root for Baylor if offensive innovation is what you want.

Socratic should be made our recruiting coordinator. I've never seen such an affable, positive Gator in my life.
Wait, I'll gladly buy him Baylor swag.

Another photo of Florida AD Jeremy Foley's plane.

I just asked Jeremy Foley if he is going to offer Jim McElwain the job. His response: "I'm just trying to do a job."
Matt L. Stephens @MattStephens
Florida AD Jeremy Foley is at Jim McElwain's home now. No one is answering the door.
Matt L. Stephens @MattStephens
So I should clarify something: no one is answering the door when we knock. Foley went inside and is meeting with McElwain.
lol did this CSU reporter really go knock on McElwain's door while he's meeting with Foley?

me too if I were a Gator. Heck, if Kirby were not an option when Saban leaves, I would have been thrilled with coach Mac.
