8 wins at Alabama also gets your fired. Since we play them EVERY YEAR, it is not acceptable to follow an 8 win season with a 9. That being said, we've played very well against them (even in losses).

I think Miles meant that people shouldn't freak out due to an occasional 8-win season.
Well if you are a reasonable person one might think that.

So, basically, you're saying the administration should be more rational and have more foresight than some of the loony fanbase. Interesting concept.

Someone is yet to answer this: how exactly do you put that in a contract?

You don't and can't. I think this request is bullshite. No way that can be honored. If it is, I'm sure we'll include a "state of the program clause" which is just as retarded.

Dude,

Gentlemen of good character can take one another at their word. Of course, he will want specific things in the contract, but there is ALWAYS these kinds of things in negatiations that are more 'give me your word'.

When one interviews for a job, one may ask "is there a chance for advancement to management from this position eventually"? That may not get written into the contract, but the applicant is correct to ask the interviewer for that kind of "commitment", no?

Exactly...especially from the administration.

Anyone with a brain should know that Miles is striving for better than 8 wins.

To me this is very simple. I'm sure I'm missing something. Couldn't they just agree that every year that Miles wins 9 or more games they extend agreement for another year. If he wins SEC championship then 2 years extension. If NC then 4 year extension. This should align with both what LSU wants and I think what Miles should want. This gives him lots of cushion for those "occasional" 7 or 8 win seasons with no contract extension. If he performs most years, he can be here as long as he wants. LSU could add a clause that if he wins 8 games or less for 3 years running, then they can fire him without paying remaining years on contract. To me, this seems like a typical pay for performance agreement that any of the rest of would expect in the work world.

I'll now duck for cover.

Saban was supposed to win it this year.

Instead goes out and loses 3.

What happened? Is he actually human?

He's not saying he wants to be able to have 8 win seasons in perpetuity, but that if one or two rear their head during a down period, he shouldn't be catching flack from the AD that he catches from an overemotional fan base.
You are being MUCH too reasonable and logical, CFBR.

Easy:
Automatic one year extension to term of contract whenever "eight or more wins"...

Downside for LSU: We lose control over term extensions...

Whatever, we won't ever only win 8 games in the next few years. Give him the assurance.
