I don't even know if I'd want Greg Davis as I don't know enough about him, but talking about him being fired by his bff is kinda silly.
The move was obviously made as more of a PR move than anything. His production as a coach =/= him being fired.

Look at the numbers his offenses have produced and tell me if you sincerely believe the firing was justified.
Mack basically bowed down to the voices who have been begging for this through years and years of top 10 offenses. I'd say that is more on a pathetic fanbase than merited.
He's had one bad year this past decade.

Why was he fired then?
For turning Colt McCoy into a 3rd round draft pick that looked good when he played this year?
For repeatedly having good offenses?
This is what I'm saying... his firing does not match his production.
It's eerily similar to what Tennessee fans said about Chavis when we picked him up.
But you probably hate Chavis too...
ETA: I think Harsin could be a realistic option, certainly.
If I were Holgorsen, of course I'd want to coach at LSU, but I don't think it's as significant career step as you're trying to make it out to be.

the shelf life of almost any coordinator is pretty short as far as fan satisfaction. if he's really good and want sto be a head coach or if hes just plain awful he'll be gone pretty fast. lifelong coordinators are usually despised by the fanbase mainly because of familiarity.

I think more than anything Texas just needs some fresh faces to rejuvenate the base.
GD is the complete fall guy in this situation. GD successfully runs a shotgun option for years, but Mack says last Spring that he wants to run a Big10 Les offense with a shitty OL and no RBs and a with a Texas option QB.

Exactly. I think Davis' resignation has more to do with the length of his tenure rather than his actual production.

Not sure of the exact sequence, but it went something link this.
Spring - Pro Style
Game 1-4 - Pro Style
Game 5-7 - Option
Game 8-12 - Mixture of both

Dan, don't disagree but Texas does play a very weak OOC schedule and some Big 12 teams play no defense (see Texas Tech under Leach).

Yeah, this is one thing I'm wondering.
Perhaps Davis made a living off stat padding vs. teams like Rice and then having low scoring days against teams in conference (ala Jimbo Fisher). Of course the numbers are going to drop vs. better competition, but how much is my question.

I'll give you Vince, but McCoy wasn't really a big shot recruit or anything. Pretty low ranked kid out of Texas, that I think may have even been a backburner option for Texas. Of course, he had a fantastic career, but I doubt anyone forecast the success he had as a freshman.
