Would Alleva stake his job on O?

That's what's at stake for him. You know he sees what everyone else sees. You know he hears what goes on on this board, and many others. You know he can see the political mastery Coach O has put in place. The only real question, and I think it's a big question, is whether or not Alleva is willing to risk his job at LSU on CEO. Anyone who thinks O is not a huge risk is just naive. Doesn't matter what he says he's learned, doesn't matter what he's done as a interim, doesn't matter how long its been since his last full time gig, the FACT is that he fail miserably at Ole Miss. If you were in the same shoes, would you risk it on O? If you knew that if your next hire doesn't come in a compete for championships you're gone, would you risk it on O, or would you take a safe choice or the lower risk choice with a higher upside? No matter which side of the fence you're on, this hire will decide Alleva's fate.

He's screwed. I don't think his personality is strong enough to resist the good ole boys. Look at the Johnny Jones hire.

My personal take would be no. I don't know that Alleva can survive a failure of any of the top three candidates mentioned.
But if he can survive any, it's Fisher or Herman. Fail with Fisher, and at least you went out and got the coach with the best resume. Fail with Herman, he rolled the dice on the hot up-and-comer (Caveat here is how much Herman gets paid. Give Herman $5 mil and he fails and Alleva is toast). Fail with O, and you failed with a Dline coach who's record gave no indication he was qualified for the job.

I don't think he has the spine to hire the right guy. He will give in to the pressure and hire O.

This.
Alleva would have to be insane to put his job on the line with O.

this is one of the reasons why privately O is not even being considered for this job.. all the emotional idiots coming out saying "yeah just need an OC!" have no idea how to run anything.. The only way O can even sniff the job is if he were to go up to LA tech or something get them ranked in 2-3 years and LSU open up again.. thats it.. cant believe people are so stupid when it comes to him..hes a great guy but he doesnt even deserve a shot at it.. period..

I actually agree with this 100%. I think the most survivable decision, assuming it fails, would be Jimbo. You go for the big name, proven coach and he comes in a shits the bed, he'd probably get a pass for that one. Hire O and he shits the bed, he's gone.

in all likelihood alleva will have little choice in the matter. the AD almost always stakes his job on the football coach hire at LSU (and some others). it's part of the landscape. if the TAF "cartel" tells him to hire X, he would lose his job if he doesn't hire X. so, he will only win if the new hire wins.
i'm not sure how old he is but I think he's pretty near retirement anyway. he's in a familiar position and it's part of being an AD. if he wants to, i'm sure he can get another AD job somewhere if he gets canned.
