Will Frank Wilson get a crack at a bigger job at the end of the season?

UTSA is currently 2-3, but the only bad loss is at Old Dominion. They lost a close game @ Colorado state and lost by 4 against Arizona State and had a two touchdown lead going into the 4th quarter. They beat the shite out of Southern Miss Saturday. I could see him landing at Houston. What say you?

no chance at the houston job, but i could see him getting some interviews at a higher level, but he will probably need another season atleast before he gets one

I think he needs at least one (more likely two) years before he moves on. If he did somehow make a move at the end of the season i don't see it being to Houston. Seems like a big jump.

Isn't that where Larry Coker was?

Not as big of a jump as you'd think. Houston isn't some huge job. Jim Tressel went from Youngstown State to Ohio State. USC and Oregon have hired coordinators. Georgia just hired a coordinator. Louisville, Mississippi State, Florida, Texas A&M...I mean the list goes on. Frank coached a while at LSU and is in his second season as a head coach. It's not out of the realm of possibility that a good season could see him get hired at a program like that. He's a young coach with recruiting ties in Texas and Louisiana

Right but tressel was also at youngstown for like 15 years or so before going to ohio state.
As it relates to a "good season" the record doesn't show it right now. I think he will get his opportunity to shine, just not this soon.
Not saying it's not possible. I just feel like some of the others you named like Smart and Tressel had done some impressive things before they were hired. I really like Frank so I hope his opportunity comes sooner rather than later.
ETA: Houston is becoming a more and more respectable place to coach. They seem to have a good "stepping stone" program for HCs.

This is his first year. He's done a respectable job so far but he has the opportunity to do better over the next couple seasons and really make a name for himself, as he's a great recruiter and has really improved on their typical class so far. IMO a program that tries to poach him this season won't be any substantial upgrade just yet so he'd be wise to stick for two more years and wait for a lower tier P5.

He needs a few years to prove he can sustain success and build a program.

Yes, but he had incredible success there first.

Sure, so did OU when they hired Stoops from Florida. Name schools will hire coordinators when they are viewed as top notch coordinators.
I think Arranda and Venables (and perhaps Kiffin) are possibilities to have this jump next. They don't really have to jump to HC until the job they want comes calling.

Yes. He was their first head coach.

5 games in as a head coach and 2-3, let's build a statue and give him a top tier job already
