Coming out of high school, he was ranked as one of Rivals top 10 Pro-Style QBs. Somewhere along the way, Crowton decided that he was a taller Michael Vick and that he should be a scrambling QB. In reality, JJ is a pocket passer with mobility. I want to believe the new system will help him but hes still fundamentally flawed. Throwing at receivers feet, over throws the deep ball, can't pick up a blitz or check down off his first receiver. we can hope Krags can fix him though right?

He's at his worst while in the pocket, I dont care what he was ranked coming out of HS.

Let's just hope Mett is given every possible chance to win this job in the spring

OC providing:

Good instruction
Quality gameplan
Attention to detail
Timely play calling
Willingness to stick with whatever is working

will ALL help the qb (whoever that may be)

I think JJ will do well....as will Mett

It is more suited to him. . .but it suits Mett better.

I think the fans are putting way to much stock into 2011 Mett. Hes never so much as played an SEC game or even been on the sidelines as a backup. Its highly likely there will be an adjustment period for him. Rather than immediately throwing 3TDs and 300 yards in every game

Absolutely. But it beats throwing 4 regular season TDs.

You can roll out in a pro-style offense.

see Drew Brees. Hes not a runner but hes mobile and constantly moves around. (disclaimer: I'm in no way at all comparing Jefferson to Brees)

It's a new competition now. Mett has to like his chances with a new OC that doesn't have anything invested in the other 2 guys.

Based on Krag's history, I would not be surprised to see J. Lee start against Oregon. And throw for 400 yards and win the game.

An effective power running game should take some pressure off of him.

However he still must get more accurate and make better decisions with the football.

Hopefully, Mett will replace JJ and that definitely favors Mett.

I think most fans would be happy with 200+ yards and 1+ TD a game compared to the past years.

I'll tell you what I saw in that Cotton Bowl. JJ is a very effective runner from a pro-style offense....after he drops back and then decides to scramble from a broken down pocket. Where he is very average is running from a spread option offense. Having said that, one thing is certain, the level of competition at the QB position just went North a few notches fellas. One day, I'm leaning toward, "I'll be shocked if Miles doesn't start JJ", to the next day thinking, "There is no way Mett doesn't blow up this spring and take the starters gig away for good". Should be a fun show.

No...

Dude lacks mechanics. He has no footwork, release or accuracy. He needs to keep himself moving, that is usually where he hurts a defense. I don't expect the offense to change much with him in the game. He'll mostly be sitting in Shotgun, IMO.

If he is doing drop back passes, I expect a lot of rollouts, which IMO, allow a defense to play one side of the field much easier. He better learn some accuracy though and shorten his release, otherwise you won't be seeing him do many short drops with quick passes. That is why I don't think the offense changes much with him in...he would have to show substantial improvement in his mechanics this offseason.

Agreed. I think he ought to have a chance to get a lay of the land before we throw him to the lions - or the wolves.

I think JJ is too inconsistent as a QB and was still struggling with the offense after being in Crowtons system for so long, and now he i has to learn a new system very quick. I think it will be Mett shining in the system. I think JJ's confidence got a boost after decent performance in bowl game, but he only shines a couple games a season.
