Gus could do better than that.

He could probably fetch a decent SEC job if he waits a year or two

It's not like he was bad relative to the entire world of college football. He just had the misfortune of competing not only is the same conference as Alabama, but the same division and STATE. He beat Alabama 3 times in 8 years. No one else can say that. But, when your fans/booster have to live with your much more successful rival 365 days, even really good isn't good enough.

I bet South Carolina is kicking themselves a bit for not waiting. While Gus's performance may not have been good enough for Auburn, I bet South Carolina would LOVE to have had that kind of success for 8 years.

Imagine Juice Williams and Rashard Mendenhall in that offense. Then tossing it deep to Arrelious Benn off the play action.

Yeah if Auburn pulled the trigger last year he’d be at Arkansas right now

I have no doubt that Tennessee will kick the tires on him atleast, just for his record against bama.

Vtech is the best fit for him. He just isn't a very good X's and O's or program builder. He needs someone who values a clean program over winning.

Agreed, he did well there. I think the offensive struggles got too frustrating for the fanbase. He's supposed to be an offensive guru.

He isn't a good recruiter either.

VT needs a good recruiter just as much as a good coach to be successful.

They need to hire the Kent State coach. Would be a HR hire for them.

The question should be why would Gus want to be hired by Illinois.

Remember, Illinois has experience hiring an SEC reject. (Ron Zook) That didn't work out too well for them. They will hire someone who has experience in the north, which is a completely different recruiting environment than in SEC country. Their top targets seem to be the coaches at Buffalo and Kent State.

They don’t have a Waffle House in Champaign.
