One random Oregon local evening news anchor claimed that Lanning was in Tuscaloosa and everyone ran with it, citing his report. Dude is now getting absolutely dragged on Twitter.

I don’t doubt for a second he wasn’t in Tuscaloosa, that’s quite the plane ride within hours of Saban’s retirement.
It’s pretty well documented that Lanning was their first choice, though. Him being 38 is completely irrelevant.

This is the case for a lot of guys being mentioned. Deboer, Sark, Lanning, etc are already in good spots. Why would they jump into the frying pan following Saban at Bama?
The list of obtainable and proven coaches that Alabama might get: Norvell, Kiffin, Dabo. Thats the list. These 3 have reasons to make that move.

I’ll admit what I was referencing was the PM show. He doesn’t outright say he was offered, but Pat does, and he doesn’t refute it. But point taken.

It never made a ton of sense that he was already in Tuscaloosa during that time frame.
I think the buzz around him taking the job is due to comments Saban has had about him as well as virtually everyone reporting that he was the first candidate.
But I do see your point, I was very much around for Miles to Michigan and Herman to LSU. Not everything the sports media said can be taken seriously.

Well, of the 4 coaches between Belloti and Lanning, 3 of them have been poached from Oregon. Helfrich was the only one to get fired.
