Why was Herman so desired?

He is in his second year as a head coach and finished 6th in a crappy conference. His 2 decent wins this year are over an average Oklahoma team, and a Louisville team that lost to Kentucky today.

Because he almost beat Memphis, SMU and Navy this year.
You don't see that kind of coaching prowess every year.

BUT, he also lost some games that he should not have. He could be the next Saban/Meyer, or he could be the next Butch Jones/Brian Kelly. He would have been a better hire than O, but he had his flaws.

He was more of a risk than Jimbo, but I think he's had a higher ceiling than Jimbo as well.

Don't spout BS just to make a point. OK and Louisville are better wins than anything LSU has this year. And he did it with Houston. Now, I do think the three losses might be cause for concern. But give the man credit for succeeding at Houston. And for being a dynamite OC before that.

Flavor of the month. He runs a great offense. Sumlin did better at Houston than Herman did.

Just let that sink in.
