The guy is a great college coach with a great track record. Why are rantards bashing him and Arkansas? The man will do good things for that program no matter how long he is there and it was a great hire for the Hogs. Are you bashing him simply because he is in the SEC now? Arkansas just beat LSU, and now they have a better coach.

shouldn't he have to prove himself in a dominant league before you say he is better than miles?

oh ok, well then you have a better argument but he still has to prove himself first. The SEC and the Big East are totally different.

I'm one of those "bashers". In my case its an opinion based upon more than just his record at UL. It's about who his teams had to play to get those records and how he will do against a much tougher conference with a number of teams who have (and will have) vastly superior athletes. You can find some coaches who have made this kind of change and have done fine. There are also a number who have flopped.

Here's one more observation. Nutt recruited the entire team and is a well liked "players" coach. The word on Petrino is that he is an a-hole who is like the core opposite of Nutt. Will the Arkansas players respond to him like the Atlanta Falcons players responded after losing another players coach in Mora? Will they respond to him like the Alabama players did Saban after losing another "players" coach in Shula?

How long will he stay? 14 different jobs since 1984, this is the 3rd 'long-term' contract he has signed in 18 months. I am a professional recruiter and would not hire someone with a track record of leaving before getting the job done.

They guy is a very good coach whom has proven himself in college. I don't like the way he quit on the Falcons mid season. You at least have an obligation to the players for the work they have put in for you. That was a dirtbag move.

It sounds like he did not even talk to his players. He went to Blank's (one of the most respected owners in the league) office, blindsided him by resigning with NO NOTICE and hopped on the plane for Fayetteville. Very poorly handled but that's an entirely different issue.

because he is 4-5 against top 30 teams, 2-4 against top 10 teams (using end of season rankings). Plus his defenses are always atrocious. It's not like he played against the calibre of offenses that he will face in the SEC.

Got Integrity?

Our Coach Does.

I think Petrino's good, but I foresee him having the same fate as Chan Galey. Good but not great. He'll make the offense a little more imaginative, but not enought to please everyone in ArKansas. Then he will hightail it once he get's an opportunity to move on in about three to four years.

Please don't confuse this conversation with FACTS. His teams has a poor record against ranked teams and racked up those good records by playing in, what was at the time, one of the weakest conferences in the country. Seriously, there was absolutely ZERO real competition for Louisville and they generally lost to any real competition from outside their league.

Opening up the pocketbook also puts him in the bullseye of major boosters who are expecting BIG dividends for that payout. The leash will get short very quickly if he does not show definitive improvement over Nutt.

His college record is similar to B.Bowdens' at Fla State years ago. Bowden..an acknowledge good coach....built up his huge won/loss record playing a very weak ACC schedule. The Big East is not even close to the ACC nowadays. But, a large part of the bashing comes from his Saban comparisons as a coach with no integrity or ethics. He talked with the Falcons' owner twice on Monday, both times telling him that he was staying. He left on Tuesday, much like Tubby leaving O.Miss. That is the main knock on him.

You complain about the level of competition at UL, but his teams never lost to Kentucky.

I wouldn't worry too much about jim rome. He also bashed damian williams last year for dropping balls even though he had a seperated shoulder.
