LINKHeupel brings with him an impressive track record of success, including four national championship game appearances, seven BCS bowl games and coaching oversight of two Heisman Trophy winning quarterbacks. He has 13 years of coaching and recruiting experience at the highest level, including the last five seasons as offensive coordinator and play caller at Oklahoma and Utah State. Heupel finished his first season as assistant head coach/offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach with Utah State.

Heupel helped mentor two Heisman Trophy winning quarterbacks in Jason White (2003) and Sam Bradford (2008), while a third, Landry Jones, won the Sammy Baugh Award in 2010 as the nation's top passer. Heupel's name also carries a lot of clout in recruiting circles due to his prowess as a quarterback during his playing days, when he led Oklahoma to the BCS National Championship in 2000, while finishing as the Heisman runner-up that season.

The coach he won a national title for as a player, fired him. That's an indictment. Also Mizzou was pretty garbage on offense against any team with a pulse. Got some meaningless yards but that's about it.

Which leads to my next question. Is Oregon's offense success based on weak defense in Pac 12? LSU and Auburn both beat Oregon in the past at their PEAK. Missouri played 3 top 16 defenses this year and 2 were in the east.

The SEC has 5 defenses ranked in the Top 30, the Pac 12 has 3, the opposite is true for offense. Pac with 5 and Sec with 3.

BTW Missouri might be the least talented team in the SEC.

Well, he wasn't coaching when White won the Heisman and he didn't become an OC until 2011. Jones' numbers went down after that and Heupel was fired 4 years later.

I guess Mizzou didn't want that in the bio though.

Mizzou's less talented offense going up against a stacked LSU defense is the correct answer.

So 3 less points than the guy we are currently after who was working with double the amount of talent?

And Alabama barely had more vs. LSU.

LSU has a terrible offense but the defense is elite. So your "logic" is not.

It's not the hire I want at all, but it's the kind of hire I expect.

Seems like he very detail oriented. Mizzou did look pretty good at times this year, but they were clearly outmatched in every game. This is also a rebuilding type year for them.

I would dismiss him just yet. Not saying he's my favorite candidate, but Mizzou's offense looked well coached at times. Just out-manned.

Did you watch the LSU v Mizzou game? His High School offense looked silly.

Did you watch LSU vs BAMA?

Our defense made plenty teams look silly, even the mighty Bama.

Bamas offense was far from their strong point this season.

Yea but...they have a Heisman contender and scored more points on UF than we scored against UF, Auburn, and Bama combined.

They were no juggernaut, but let's not have our hate turned on too much that we can't give credit where it's due.

I'm good with your answer. I would also wonder how you feel about Kiffin. Would he be a good hire? He has a Heisman type QB, 5*s all over the Offense and managed 10 points on LSU's, on the field all the time, defense. Do you still feel he is a viable candidate?

Yet they ranked 26th nationally in Total Offense.

Bama did win the game right? Kiffin was in a chess match with Aranda who had 2 weeks to prepare for one another.

He called the plays to win the game when he needed to most. Several very well designed run plays that gashed us and took the life of the team.

Yes, there were holds on the TD play, but we couldn't stop sht they were doing that entire drive and another drive when it mattered. Give credit where it's due.

I'm not saying Kiffin isn't a great OC. All I'm saying is that Missouri had a better offense with half the talent as Bama. Lsu held Missouri to 7 points and 265 yards but Lsu also held Bama to 10 and 323 yards.

If you are simply comparing Missouri's offense based off the game against Lsu then you should also compare Bama's offense vs Lsu, which statistically wasn't much different. The biggest difference was how Lsu offense played against both and we all know how that turned out.

He spent the first half attacking LSU's strengths to the outside and ignoring the weakness up the middle. Second half he flipped. Good adjustment, or poor game to start out?
