What is Jim Leavitt up to these days and why hasn’t he gotten more looks as a HC? What he did at USF was nothing short of fantastic although i know he left under scrutiny (don’t recall what happened).

Old defensive coach who peaked a decade ago who was fired for hitting a player and Oregon isn't doing anything particularly special that'll get him hired.

He's in his first year as the DC of Oregon.

He was fired at USF b/c he hit a player at halftime of a game and tried to get coaches and players to lie about it to the school.

that defense has made a jump this year with true freshman. That DL has been nasty. Next year they will make another jump. What Leavitt did as DC at Colorado was incredible as well.

From complete crap to bad. That's improvement but bad doesn't get you many job offers.

Educate me then. What AD is looking at 46th in YPG and 89th in PPG as a must get? Offense sells tickets so defensive coordinators have to be damn near elite to get HC jobs.
The DCs who got HC jobs last offseason were from Florida, Ohio State, Wisconsin, and Indiana promoting their DC. Where does Leavitt's performance fit in with what Geoff Collins, Luke Fickell, and Justin Wilcox were doing?
2015: DJ Durkin, Kirby Smart, Will Muschamp, Barry Odom and Kalani Sitake.
So that's 9 hires and two who weren't putting in ELITE work, one was a promoted interim and the other an alum who's the right religion.

He’s a good football coach, but there’s a lot of doubts about his character in terms of being the head coach of a program.

How many coaches get fired from a school like USF under a cloud of controversy, then get hired at a P5 school?

He probably needs a 4-5 year run at a smaller school to prove himself again. The problem is that he’s 60.

I'm not gonna argue for Leavitt to be a hc because I think he's nuts.

The posts where people criticize a coach in their 1st season are for the most part stupid. Oregon (it's defense in particular) was a dumpster fire. They lack talent on that side of the ball. It's gonna take time before they make real progress.

I didn't say he's doing a bad job, I said he's not doing anything special that will get him noticed for a head coaching job. There's a difference.

I'd take you over Kelly

Sounds like Ansley from Bama and the lb coach at UGA are the top 2 candidates

I get what you are saying, but Oregon was 126th (out of 128) in YPG and also 126th in PPG last year. That’s a huge improvement. When you add in the fact that he was successful at getting a program going in FBS as a HC, I can see the appeal.

Well being at Oregon is the next step. Then he shall go to OSU as their next head coach. Do not forget that old TV show "Leave it to Beaver" That would be a good fit for him to be the next OSU head coach. His last name is a good fit!

He has a Bo Pellini caliber temper and should not get another HC position unless it is at a dip shite school.

Jim Leavitt made a verbal agreement with Kansas State last year to become the Wildcats’ head coach-in-waiting but Bill Snyder nixed the plan, according to a report from former ESPN college football writer Brett McMurphy.

The report, citing anonymous sources, said that Snyder prevented the deal from going through, because he wanted his son Sean to replace him.

It's hard to get hired as a HC with punching a player on your resume.
