Why Lincoln Riley?

Why are so many people wanting Lincoln Riley? Sure he has a great record in the Big 12, but what is it about him that makes everyone think he will be successful at LSU?
I could make the argument that there are a lot of coaches that would have had the exact same success at Oklahoma. Oklahoma really only plays one or two games a year in conference that are even competitive and he almost always finds a way to lose to someone he shouldn't.

I think we could do much worse than Riley.

Young, smart, good spokesman, well organized, good recruiter, proven track record of getting to the playoffs. He can only work with what he has got. I think he would excel at LSU

I hope it's not him.

Why not? What makes you think he would not be successful at LSU?

We could clearly do much worse, but that is a very low bar for a school like LSU. We should aim to hire the absolute best. If he is the best, then so be it.
I guess I just don't wee what really sets him apart from the crowd. Again, Oklahoma is Oklahoma and they will win a lot of games just for being Oklahoma.

Bob Stoops still lives in Oklahoma too

So who? The guy is 38, has been to the playoffs and has pretty much kept OU as high as they can realistically go with the talent they’re privy too.

Who fits your criteria as the best then?

No, you really couldn't. You can say you believe it but there is no argument to make.

Since he's head coach they have been to:
Rose Bowl
Orange Bowl
Peach Bowl
Cotton Bowl
While finishing the season ranked #3, #4, #6 and #6.
That's impressive, quit looking for nits to pick.

Outside of Alabama, name a perfect coach... There are none. I personally want Urban Meyer, but I'd be ecstatic with Lincoln Riley. You really can't do much better than that. It's hard to envision him leaving Oklahoma though. I think he's playing the field for a raise.

Baker Mayfield & Kyler Murray…
Throw in Jalen Hurts for good measure.

Sure, you COULD make that argument, if you had those alternate dimension time traveling stones from the Avengers movie.
Otherwise it is impossible for you to know what someone else would have done.

quote:No there wouldn't have. They've had Bob Stoops the whole century before Riley. This is the modern age, do you think anybody would just go to Oklahoma because of prestige? Oklahoma doesn't have an in state recruiting base. The coaches are the only thing keeping that program from being a better version of Nebraska.

All you guys hating on Riley are freaking clueless. All Riley would have to do is get a good defensive coordinator at LSU and it is over with for the SEC. The talent we have come in and go out to the NFL is telling.

I don’t think he would leave OU but he would be my number 1 choice

There’s a ton to like about that hire.
1)offensive minded coach with QB success.
2)good recruiter
3)38 years old
4)weakens a soon to be conference opponent
5) no baggage.
6) consistent success at OU.
7) playoff experience.
